I meant UHD discs with DV. I've checked and none do them do. Hell, only Anora and Perfect Days are HDR.

Nothing to see here but Criterion's further slide into obsolescence.

It also includes the color version on Blu-ray from a 4K digital restoration, just not a 4K release of it.

Well at least I have a Plan B in case Anora doesn't get a physical release here in the UK (I have a Region 1 DVD player).

Based on the email, it looks like Anora and Ugetsu are likely in digipacks while the rest are plastic cases

This is an absolute banger month. Second month in a row I am getting 90% of the releases.

With Some Like It Hot coming out so soon, is it safe to predict the other MGM owned titles to be within the year?

I'm very easily pleased and happy with most of what Criterion does but the 4K upgrades of single discs inside an expensive set I bought from them is irritating. I wish they had like a $10 upgrade the disc option.

For anyone one interested in how long between a title going on the Channel and getting a disc release, Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring and Basquiat went up on the Criterion Channel in December 2023 and the discs are coming April 2025, so 16 months.

No, those titles went OOP from Kino because Criterion wanted them back.

It's not just Criterion stepping to make sure those titles are still in the marketplace after Kino's releases went OOP, it's them forcing the studio not to renew Kino's license so they could release these titles themselves.

It might be the same transfer, we'll see how different the encoding/compression will be but I doubt it will be a noticeable difference for those who don't compare pixels. This isn't about topping the Kino releases, Criterion just wanted these titles in 4K as part of their collection.

I don't think the amount of effort (and associated cost) is anywhere near the same for these re-releases that already have 4K masters and a movie like Sunset Blvd.

The Kino version of "Some Like It Hot" is already flawless, so I won't be double dipping on that. I will be happily buying the others, though.

This is a great month of announcements. Excited for everything announced and especially thrilled with Anora 4K and Chungking Express 4K. Jean de Florette / Manon of the Spring are two of the greatest films I have ever seen and it will be a delight to revisit them with these new 4K restorations. Some Like It Hot is one of the greatest classic films and even though I own the Kino 4K and Criterion Blu-ray, I will likely pick up the Criterion 4K as well. Outstanding to see Criterion continue to release more Japanese cinema on 4K, including Ugetsu - this makes the month even better. I'm excited about Basquiat and Prince of Broadway, too. An exceptional month.
