I believe I read Four Nights of a Dreamer is with Criterion/Janus (I think there's a new restoration screening—something on the Carlotta Films IG led me to believe so at any rate), so that would perhaps be at the top of my realm-of-possibility wishlist for the upcoming announcement(s)

But that was unfair to the work: it is very good and was very successful at the time. Nominated for three Academy Awards but then the very early Academy took him out of the first competition by giving him a special award "for writing, acting, directing and producing The Circus".

THE CIRCUS has a fantastic comedic hall of mirrors sequence that has to be the inspiration for Orson Welles's tense thriller hall of mirrors sequence in THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI 19 years later.
It's the first one I bought because I love the circus. Fell in love with the Circus ever since I was a kid staring up at the beautiful woman on the flying trapese in the Barnum & Bailey circus. So I'll definitely be watching it soon.

I chose The Great Escape as my former Kino UHD upgrade in May. It could be any of the titles at this point, and there will probably be one a month until they are finished.

Will May be the month I finally get 'Talk to Her' (2002) ? Criterion has been lining up tons of stuff I want for 2025, so when their July sale comes, I'll be stocking up. 'Talk to Her' never had a blu-ray release and I'd love to retire my DVD. I think it is realistic, yet it remains elusive. Sigh. As usual, I'll put it at the top of my list of realistic hopes for May 2025.

So here's what I'd like to see for May...

First time Criterion releases
'Talk to Her' (2002)
'Splendor in the Grass'
'Wake In Fright'

4K Upgrades
'Y Tu Mama Tambien'
'Sid & Nancy'

It has been 5 years since Criterion released an Almodóvar film on disc. There is the 'rumor' Criterion has his entire library a films, if so what are the plans? A box set? I'm patiently waiting.

I saw someone mention the French film 8 Women. Does Criterion have the license to that? I remember it being a favorite of mine. I am surprised it still does not have an English friendly Blu-ray release. I'd be happy to have that on Blu-ray and/or 4K.

What about The Princess and The Warrior? It is almost as great as Run Lola Run. It is one of my favorites and I continue to be baffled as to why it has no Blu-ray release. I would love this one on 4K UHD soon.

Personally, I am hoping for the following soon:
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 4K (one of my all time favorites)
The Adventures of Antoine Doinel 4K UHD set (all are now on 4K in France, I will keep asking about it until it happens)
More Kurosawa 4K upgrades (BFI has announced some as well)
Hitchcock 4K Collection would be great, too (as another poster suggested)
Shoot the Piano Player 4K (more Truffaut in general, please)
A Woman is A Woman 4K (more Godard in general, please)
Flow 4K

Basically anything from the French New Wave in 4K or classic Japanese cinema is going to make me extremely happy.

I am also wondering about the Ozu set. I remember Criterion did a huge Ozu retrospective a while back with new restorations on almost all of his films. Is Criterion planning a massive Ozu box-set similar to Bergman? I hope so.

All but one of Ozu's films are on the Criterion Channel and have been for a while (caveat: streaming rights do not equal disc rights, I know).

They've released a bunch on disc individually.

I think the sudden stop of big box sets probably has to do with reticence around 4K/Blu-ray combos. The Capra set from Columbia is the only major directorial set that includes both without everything being 4K (I haven't been paying as close attention as I used to, so I might have missed something). Would collectors reject it? Would they buy it at all, waiting for the minor titles to get upgraded later?

I have no information and no real hope for any more big sets from Criterion. Maybe it's just that they just weren't that profitable after Bergman. I dunno.

Right? It makes sense that there probably are box sets coming. But I don't think Criterion has indicated that they were planning these sets. It always has seemed like just speculation that became fact.
