Interested in the Cherbourg remaster, but already have Demy set and StudioCanal BD.
Worth noting Killer of Sheep is another Milestone sublicense like Soy Cuba, and a longstanding Channel title predating To Sleep with Anger (with Walk repeated). The Return of the Musketeers is with MGM (released by Kino). Kino Heat has an exclusive commentary, but Criterion has some unique interviews including with the late Jewison. Cohen previously released Wind with commentary and 90 min conversation, the Artificial Eye DVD included A Lesson in Cinema with Abbas Kiarostami (50 mins). This is the newer Q&A Last edited by CelestialAgent; 02-14-2025 at 04:41 PM. |

The only thing that truly chaps me about Withnail And I is the continued exclusion of the theatrical cut, which apparently has never been on home video before.

I gotta say I'm appreciative that Criterion doesn't do the Limited Edition game. It really helps with picking and choosing titles every month - particularly upgrades.

Screw April man May is definitely a way way better month for me British comedy is freaking top notch plus In the Heat of the Night and the two Musketeers films this is a freaking great month.
I’ll be buying Withnail and I How To Get Ahead in Advertising Musketeers two film set In the Heat of the Night Killer of Sheep Also eight titles wow that’s insane for May plus Flow coming out later this year well I’ve got a great selection for May from Criterion. Also yes I had literally 0 interest in anything from Criterion in April so May beats April in every single way. May slate>April slate Last edited by Watershipdownisgood; 02-14-2025 at 10:55 PM. |

I agree. The only example I can think of is the Time Bandits slipcover for the 4K UHD. And that stuck around for months and might still be readily available.

Maybe and probably likely, but Peter Becker has talked about having access to the new capital, so it’s possible that they have resources to do more. We’ve seen an unusual level of new commentaries, for example.

I couldn’t begin to guess about their thinking, and I’m not a pixel peeper anyway, but I have noticed an enormous reduction in complaints about their encoding for 4k discs compared to the BD days.

I tend to think Criterion wanted them all along, but MGM wanted them to hit the market on UHD sooner that Criterion was willing to to release them. So they entered the agreement with Kino probably knowing that they would pull them as soon as they saturated the market enough. These are simple re-issues for Criterion since they already have the Blu-rays with supplements in the market place. Quite a few of MGM's licensing of some titles with Shout, Fun City, Arrow and Kino were very brief. I'm still angry that I missed A Fish Called Wanda with Arrow. It feels like sometimes that MGM likes to keep making deals. Except for Criterion, which MGM seems to like to have long term licensing agreements. These titles will no doubt stay with Criterion for the long haul. It makes me think of when Twilight Time was in its prime and Nick Redman saying that MGM wants them to release the titles quicker than they were doing. |
