-I Married A Witch 4K (if it happens this year, I'm certain it would be an October release)
-It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World 4K (as long as it keeps the reconstructed version, even if that is only on Blu-ray)
-The Gold Rush 4K (or more Charlie Chaplin on Blu-ray)
-any Humphrey Bogart on 4K
-To Be Or Not To Be (1942) 4K
-more Cary Grant on 4K (particularly Charade)
-Here Comes Mr. Jordan 4K
-Gilda 4K
-My Man Godfrey (1936) 4K
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, World and Captain Blood 4Ks would make my day so much especially Captain Blood a title I owned in an Errol Flynn VHS box set yet still hasn't been released on Blu-Ray at all.

I'm also hoping for more African American cinema for August as July didn't have any whatsoever.

A Richard Pryor 2 pack would make my day to get both Moving, and Greased Lightning from Criterion would be amazing. They've been focusing somewhat on Richard Pryor this year so who's to say they don't put both of these out together. It would make a lot of sense we'd get some nice special features too.
Rosewood possibly
Krush Groove
Above the Rim
Dead Presidents If there's one company that can finally give this title a Blu-Ray it's Criterion plus it would finally show that Disney is willing to license out their titles again.
Above The Rim would love to see this as well

The one person it may be affecting is Woody Allen, but I think his ticket and other sales were already down before all the allegations of recent years. I couldn't say if those very public allegations accelerated the trend or if his time has simply passed. My guess is both.

When it comes to "canceling" it seems to be a small minority that has the loud megaphone of social media. Seems for most of those supposedly canceled people most of the audience mostly doesn't care. There will be a few days long tempest in an online teapot and then the social media furor moves on to someone else. The accounts of "canceling" seem to be greatly exaggerated.
Just for the record, there haven't been "all the allegations" against Woody Allen in recent years. There's been one allegation, which Mia Farrow came up with in the early 1990s, and it gets repeated every time Mia or Dylan Farrow wants to promote something that she's doing. The allegation has been investigated and dismissed by the authorities long ago.

Also just a day ago Sean Penn was asked about Allen, and he denies the allegations are even true yet Mia Farrow keeps bringing them up even though they've been dismissed already. So it makes you wonder if Mia Farrow is even telling the truth at all, or just making up lies to make herself look good. Don't get me wrong there are absolute Creeps, and sexual predators in Hollywood like Brian Peck, Victor Salva, Cosby, the guy who directed Fingers, and Kevin Spacey ick. However, I do think there are a few that get cancelled without much proof, or if there is proof it ends up being completely false, and dismissed entirely. Like Woody Allen, or the guy who directed Dust Devil

The one thing that keeps me from watching his films is the disgusting icky fact he married his step daughter. This is not only awful, but also its literal incest, which just no that's completely wrong, and just abominable.

What's interesting is that Election 2 was picked up for distribution first and renamed Triad Election in the US and the rights lapsed for the second film before the first. Still, that doesn't explain why it's not being shown in the Criterion Channels retrospect of Johnnie To.

Always a chance that Election 2 gets added to the lineup in a future month, since that is something that they do quite often. Just thought it odd because both were on the channel a couple years ago (in awful SD masters)

It deserves a US blu-ray release at the very least.
Down with Love is awesome! I would love to see it added to the Criterion collection. That would be a day 1 purchase for me!

I do hate the term cancel culture, because it makes personal choices sound flippant. I prefer the term consequences. We all have to make that choice for ourselves and what that means. I don't have a hard and fast line. I still listen to Michael Jackson music. But as much as I love Hannah and her Sisters - it was my Thanksgiving movie - I can't do it because what he's alleged to be is too much in my face. But I think it's fine saying, I don't want to do business with that person. I don't criticize anyone for an individual decision; even Mia Farrow has a painfully hard time ruling out working with Polanski again any time it's brought up. Feelings are complicated.

I only get ticked off when I see someone alleged to do something awful - or worse, ADMITTED it - lionized later just because they were accused. There's too much of "I support this person because they're on my team now and I don't really care what they did." That hardens my feelings and, when required, contempt.

(Someone brought up Harvey Weinstein, which okay, fine, but at some point it's too broad a brush. If we boycotted based on which despicable person gave an artist money, we'd lose the Renaissance.)
I gave up on my boycott of Woody because after awhile I started thinking like Perry Mason and concluded there was not enough evidence to convict the guy. This isn't the forum to debate that, but really if I were a detective or a defense lawyer I would have found a lot of discrepancies in the accounts and also suspect motivations for the allegations.

But as for Bill Cosby, that one I still harbor a 98% boycott over, watching only my childhood favorite I SPY and justifying it by saying that his participation in that TV series occurred before any of the incidents reportedly started.

I jumped ship on Bryan Singer too even though he has never been formally charged. But eyewitness accounts were disgusting and sad and who needs the guy? I sold off my Blus of his X-MEN films.

Separating the art from the artist is not always easy, especially in the medium of film where they often are front and center as opposed to a writer in a distant cabin somewhere or a painter in a studio on the other side of the world. Film people come into our homes with regularity and it's much easier to hold them accountable and turn them off if given the choice.

Not condoning what he did but he did not marry his step daughter, (he never married Mia Farrow), and it is not literal incest.

TCM had Kinoshita's Garden of Women on this morning. A powerful and intelligent film, and surely in Criterion's wheelhouse. Oshima credited this film with convincing him to be a filmmaker. Maybe we can take a break from 4K upgrades to give this a BD release.

Renewed mine online. As long as you have no warrants, unpaid speeding tickets, or a name change, it takes about five minutes. Got the new one in the mail a few weeks later. More time for watching movies...

As for predictions/wishlist:

The Sweet Hereafter

Trick

The Village

Beautiful Thing

And maybe a Kurosawa rescued from DVD hell.

Would love to see it. Any Japanese drama from that time period is something I would love to see. Problem is, it’s Japanese, and it seems Criterion has no interest in releasing new-to-disc Japanese films anymore.

I continue waiting for more Johnnie To (the collection on the Channel is a good sign, but I'm a little put off by it only featuring the crime thrillers) and the missing Edward Yang films. I have to imagine a box set is coming with at least A Confucian Confusion, Terrorizers, and Mahjong – the last of which I'd love to rewatch and can't really when no Blu-Ray (or even decent DVD) exists anywhere in the world.

Also wonder if we'll ever get the Jia Zhangke set (?) that's been talked about. Now or next month would be the time to announce it, in my opinion, since Caught by the Tides is playing.

My loftiest dreams: would love to see more Obayashi. There are relatively new restorations of "School in the Crosshairs" and "His Motorbike, Her Island," which I'm excited to see next month. Would be great for more than approximately five thousand people to find out he has movies beyond "House."

Would love to see The Village – it's Shyamalan's best movie, in my opinion – though I imagine that'll come through Disney/Buena Vista, like The Sixth Sense.

As for Kurosawa, a Stray Dog upgrade (or any other) would be nice to see.
