The other factor that I think played no small role in this? French Dispatch is the last film Anderson did with Fox/Disney. Everything else since then has been with Netflix and Focus. So there’s a real end-of-the-era kind of thing happening here.

Would I love it if Criterion did a box set like this devoted to Scorsese's films from the last 25 years. Well, I can dream.

That's true, except for Moonrise which is also Focus.

It's two nice round numbers (10 years, 25)--including Asteroid City or the Henry Sugar films would alter that cozy little frame. Doesn't mean they won't be coming out down the line! (In fact, I'm pretty sure they will at this point).

I would have thought Grand Budapest the obvious Anderson to put on a stand alone disc. Maybe it will come in the future.

I would prefer more Bergman/Ford/Kurosawa/Hawks or Powell and Pressburger in a 4k box myself.

#2274 has been added to Janus's website.

In the Mood for Love 2001
https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2274

Quote:
Initially conceived as one third of a triptych about food, In the Mood for Love was expanded into a stand-alone feature that won immediate recognition as a modern-day classic. Another third—intended as the “dessert,” as Wong Kar Wai has put it—was, until now, only screened during his masterclass at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Now available in wide release for the first time, In the Mood for Love 2001 demonstrates the director’s masterful ability to generate palpable atmosphere and striking characterizations on a miniature canvas—with In the Mood for Love stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Maggie Cheung Man Yuk once again providing the sizzling chemistry— evoking the mystery of transient, unexpected connections in the modern city through his inimitable romantic touch.

Plays as part of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE 25th Anniversary Edition. In theaters only!
Janus/Sideshow acquired THE LOVE THAT REMAINS.

https://variety.com/2025/film/global...es-1236412644/

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are the Janus/Sideshow films we're still waiting for:

Caught by the Tides - home video
Flow - home video
It's Not Me - home video
Misericordia - home video
The Shrouds - home video

Cloud - theatrical
The Love That Remains - theatrical
Peter Hujar's Day - theatrical
Resurrection - theatrical

Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (Janes screening this makes it seem quite likely)
Wake In Fright (it was up for grabs, but did Criterion grab it?)
Talk to Her / Hable con Ella (seems absurdly overdue)
Color of Money (slimmer odds, but a man can dream)

I swear, it seems like someone releases Wake in Fright every month lol. In reality, it did just come out on Umbrella...

(I should note 1. I don't care which country releases something because I'm region-free/buy imports. 2. I'm not one of those people who's like, eh it got released by someone, but it's not Criterion, so I won't be satisfied until it's out from them; in fact, the latter is a pet peeve)

Question for folks on the Wes Anderson Blu-rays that have been out for a while. I have six of them already (and I love the individual artwork), so I'm considering just sticking with the single releases and not upgrading. Are the current scans CC has released of his pictures considered lackluster? Given their age I would think that they were done well, but I am far from an expert on those things.

Only the first three are 'scans' per se, the rest are as-near-as-exact encodes of the digital masters of everything from The Life Aquatic onwards (2K up until French Dispatch which is his first 4K finish). And of those three from cut negatives they all look top drawer.

Jamie Lee Curtis posted the following on her Instagram about 1983's Love Letters.

Quote:
What a lovely appreciation to wake up to. With all the current talk about female representation in movies, i'm so happy that Amy Jones, who wrote and directed this beautiful film in 1983, is getting some attention now. Streaming has its many detractors, but it's bringing films that never really received much of a wide audience out and into the world. Thank you @newyorkermag and Richard Brody, @criterioncollection and Roger Corman and, of course, Amy Jones. This work preceded Trading Places and gave me an opportunity to break free from my previous work in horror films. Link in bio!
https://www.instagram.com/p/DKPW0XJRIs3/?img_index=1

You can read the New Yorker article as a series of images in her post.

Everything points to the upcoming June 2025 Criterion Channel release, but maybe a disc release will happen at some point.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this upcoming Wes Anderson set. We need a nice set of the Ishirô Honda films Criterion is sitting on.
