CC40 is down below 50% on Amazon in some regions so check it out if you were interested in that set.

I've loved EQUINOX ever since I caught it on AMC late one night in 2000/2001. Criterion announcing the dvd release was mind-blowing for me, and a blu upgrade would probably be the fastest I'd ever hit the pre-order button

Bremerton, Washington state is the location of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, so at least ATOMIC SUBMARINE got the geography right. I don't know if anything in the movie was actually filmed up here or not, however.

I believe it was filmmaker Joel Potrykus, who had a rather interesting slate of selections.

How does the original Fires on the Plain compare to its remake? I've seen Tsukamoto's film (which is quite good, though not one of his very best), but not Ichikawa's. I don't need specific differences in plot, but I wonder how they differ in theme, style and tone. Safe to say the 1959 film is less graphic with its violence, but I'm sure it goes deeper than that.

Fiend Without a Face to this day has one of screen's great monsters. It's one that could make for a cool remake, though part of its appeal is that it's a genuine 50s sci-fi flick while also containing actually creepy monsters and some gore. Don't think that juxtaposition works as well if it's forced.

Yes, very unique creatures. The first time I saw it, eons ago, on a local channel it was a shock. This was probably the late ‘60s and the gore (and the accompanying sounds) were pretty much unheard of for broadcast tv at that time. Another one that shocked me was The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. First time I saw that it was uncut but after that it was usually the censored version that was shown. Innocent times.

My hope is that Criterion give us a 4k upgrade double bill to the 2 Val Lewton Cat People films.

Has anyone watched The French Connection & Scarecrow on the Criterion Channel's Remembering Gene Hackman season?

I'm wondering if either / both feature the Criterion or Janus logo?

That'd be a day 1 for me

I could see an October release for that.

Opens with the Columbia logo. So the film is with Sony.

Silly question in regards to the ITMFL on June 27th, and I might just not see it, is there a list of theaters? Or is it only like, in NYC or something?
