I remember someone in these parts claiming that Criterion were working on some Boorman titles. Where there's smoke there's fire, etc.

Neither The General nor Queen and Country on disc. Zardoz only available on the secondary market. Excalibur could do with an upgrade. And Boorman is not getting any younger.

We need a boxset. Not just 4Ks of the two Boorman films that already have adequate BD releases.

Excalibur 4K is coming, according to Bill Hunt.

One of those Boorman titles was confirmed to me by someone that has proved reliable in the past. I also have seen signs that point to at least one of the other titles that poster mentioned.

Well, all of them to some extent. Some or all (don’t remember but definitely Happy Together has wildly different credits) of them got all-new end credits and they all have controversial color treatments but Fallen Angels is the big one. It’s completely broken. You should be fine with just about any previous release compared to it.

I didn't see anything here about the class action lawsuit against the Criterion Channel.

Quote:
A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against The Criterion Collection, LLC. The class action lawsuit claims that Defendant, The Criterion Collection, LLC, disclosed its subscribers’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) to Twilio, Inc. and Meta Platforms, Inc., without consent and in violation of multiple privacy statutes including the Video Privacy Protection Act (“VPPA”), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Pennsylvania Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act, and the Florida Security of Communications Act. The VPPA defines PII to include information which identifies a Person as having requested or obtained specific video materials or services from a video tape service provider. Defendant denies that it engaged in any wrongdoing or that it violated any law, and the Court has not decided who is right. The parties have agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case.

God, I hope Alice is announced soon.

I meet the class criteria, but I did not get an email with the class member ID code.

Thanks. Is there any list detailing what he buggered with on each film anywhere? Wouldl help in the long run. In regards to previous releases I think I have the Artificial Eye BD of Fallen Angels somewhere.

Been thinking about upgrading my DVDs of Sword of Doom and Onibaba.

For Sword of Doom, is it the same master but with the higher resolution, etc. that Blu-ray offers?

For Onibaba, there was a big debate over the Criterion and the MoC release. I looked at some screen comparisons and the MoC looked a bit blown out where bright scenes were washed out. My big question is how much is the upgrade worth, or is it not a big enough upgrade due to Criterion’s encode and color grading.

I've got about 400 titles I bought at full price. Been buying them that way since the laserdisc days. All part of the joy of living in Canada. It's a hard life when you don't weaken.

Has anyone that normally doesn't buy any Vinegar Syndrome product been tempted into a single Cinematographe purchase? Trying to figure out if their targeting of a more Criterion type niche is even working.

I’ve bought a couple of Cinematographe releases, and I’ve been very impressed with the quality. Started with Go Fish when that was first announced, and I got Who Killed Teddy Bear later on. I’m very excited for my copy of A New Leaf to arrive! Justin LaLiberty has been doing a really excellent job overseeing these releases.

With VS I typically only stick to the Partner Labels (although there have been minor exceptions like Showgirls and existenZ)--but largely the stuff VS itself puts out does not appeal to me even a little bit.

But with Cinematographe, I've already purchased Little Darlings and Female Perversions, and when they're on sale I 100% intend to get Last of the Red Hot Lovers and A New Leaf. (I don't think they're overpriced, I actually think they're pretty reasonable given that the 4ks also come with regular blus, all the special features, and the premium packaging--I am just trying to stick within my budget lol. If I had more money to throw around I'd definitely order them right now.)

There are a few I'm interested in that I still need to watch first (I am trying to not blind buy stuff much anymore in general, but definitely not at that price point), but there are also several I've watched that were definitely not for me (Red Rock West, Touch, Dangerous Game)
