Adding these to my list to check out! Thank you!

The Furies is a great set that comes with a copy of the novel (which I still need to read)

From dwk over at Criterionforum:

Quote:
On Sunday I was watching the Let's Get Physical Media show on youtube while I did some laundry and Robert Burnett was talking about Barry Lyndon and he seemed to hint that Criterion had the two remaining unreleased on UHD Kubricks. I don't think he was aware that a festival screening of the Criterion restoration of Lolita has already been announced. So it might be safe to assume they also have Eyes Wide Shut.

I posted that in the Lolita UHD thread over here yesterday, guess I forgot to post it here too (though, in my defense, I was having internet issues yesterday.)

Those are great recommendations to which I'll add another Robert Mitchum Western, Blood on the Moon with Mitchum, Barbara Bel Geddes, and Robert Preston, directed by the great Robert Wise.

Yes! I just watched that one the other day. I paired it with Rachel and the Stranger. Not a film noir western, but it did have Mitchum. That was an interesting film.

Here's all of my Barnes & Noble Criterion sale pickups (aside from Sorcerer, which I got thanks to a major pricing error on Amazon)

For $14.50 for the 4K? I actually also ordered that Sorcerer at that price - but I HAVE the blu-ray and don't even have a 4K player...haha. So I cancelled it.

But I did get Moonage Daydream 4K at the same $14.50 pricing error, so that was a good deal even for just a Blu. Haha

Yes, but I had some additional rewards points, so I ended up paying a mere $12.43 for it total.

Just an FYI, we're still awaiting the re-releases of these Dual-Format releases:
  1. A Brief History of Time
  2. The Freshman
  3. The Great Beauty
  4. Judex
  5. Jules and Jim
  6. Like Someone in Love - currently a DVD-only release. It's been over a year since support told me they were preparing it for a fall 2024 re-release.
  7. The Long Day Closes
  8. Master of the House
  9. Il Sorpasso

When these re-releases finally come to fruition, I imagine most will be in standard Scanavo cases, and the booklets will be replaced with inserts.

Over the past week I went through all of the database entries linked in the OP, and updated the inner artwork, booklet, and foldout fields. Some of these fields didn't exist for many years, so each entry had most of this information defaulted to "no." I kindly request you all to take a look, should you choose, and verify the listed information with your releases. There's no telling if I missed anything or entered something incorrectly.

At the same time, I wrote down all of the packaging images that this website could benefit from having (scans or cell phone images work). Most are Case Back and Case Spine images, while many others are DigiPack Front and DigiPack Back images. Tying this back to the original point I made, I discovered that a lot of titles that were re-released (i.e. Dual-Format to standard BD) had their booklets downgraded to foldouts. Not sure why, but it happened.

Anywho, I will update the OP soon with the list of images we could use, so if anyone doesn't mind looking out for it and helping, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what my next venture will be, but it'll probably involve seeing what duplicate entries can be removed from this website, as well as adding feature-length films included as extras, and linking them within the bundle fields. I was initially thinking of having the Tokyo Olympiad release in the Olympics bundle deleted and replaced with the standalone (since it's the same disc), but apparently the Olympic bundle version has better encoding, so that'll have to stay. I'll make note of this info in the entry when I get to it.

I have a question about It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. I just bought the digipack version at a thrist store and it is 5 Discs, 2 Blu and 3 DVD. The Criterion site and Amazon lists it as just a 2 disc set. Also, Mines lists a 197-minute extended version and Criterion and Amazon lists a 202-minute extended version. My question is, is the extra 5 minutes worth getting or is there a misprint somewhere?

It is a misprint. From IMDb:

Quote:
The original roadshow presentation, including overture, entr'acte, and exit music, ran 202 minutes. Using most of the footage included in the extended version released in 1991 on VHS and laserdisc, as well as newly found footage (some with foreign subtitles or without audio), still photos or additional audio (such as the police calls run during the intermission), the 197-minute reconstruction by film preservationist Robert Harris (included in the 2014 Criterion blu-ray release) is the closest rendition of the original roadshow release that we are ever likely to see. About 5 minutes of roadshow material in any format (live action footage, still photos, or audio) remains lost, presumably forever.
The theatrical version runs for 02:43:27, and the extended version runs for 03:17:35.

The release you picked up was the initial Dual-Format release from 2014, hence the 3 DVDs. Criterion re-released it in 2017, dropping the DVDs and the booklet, which was replaced by an insert. I believe the included map from the DigiPack release was also dropped.

Thanks, I am glad I picked it up then. I do like the little map that was included.

After reading the post here about The Criterion Release of The Wiz, i emailed them for more official confirmation of audio problems, reply:

"Hello,

Thanks for reaching out!

We can confirm that our initial release of THE WIZ 4K UHD and Blu-ray have feature audio errors that are being corrected now.

Since you have already purchased a copy of the film, please hold on to it and watch for follow up instructions regarding the process for receiving replacement corrected disc(s).

We'll be in touch again as soon as we have more news to share regarding the updated release and replacement process.

Best,
Kseniya"

Uno mas Criterion title before the sale ends...

I grabbed The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 4K today.

If the entire Demy Blu-ray box set is rereleased in 4K in a few months, then y'all are welcome.

I am obsessed with this Ugetsu but I already own the blu ray. I'm tempted to buy the 4k. Is it worth it?

Is there any streaming service that has Fires on the Plain, The Burmese Harp, and Shoeshine? As I was planning to watch them all first before buying them.

September pre-orders
Flow blind buy going to watch it next month for the first time on streaming
This is Spinal Tap
High and Low 4K

October pre-orders for me at least most of them blind buys

A History of Violence
Nightmare Alley watching it on streaming first
Altered States watching it on streaming first
Deep Crimson
Eyes Without a Face

I'm finally going to watch Seven Samurai next month it's just really really long, and you have to find a day that works best, and don't plan on watching anything else that day. This is the one Kurosawa film I keep putting off over and over again.

Fires on the Plain is on Kanopy (free with a library card).

All 3 movies are available to stream on Internet Archive (also free). If you google "[movie title] streaming" (which is what I just do any time I want to find out what service anything is streaming on lol) the top result for all of them is Internet Archive
