And go directly to Criterion during their 50% off flash sales (one should be up in October). If you spend 500 you get a 50 dollar gift certificate.

All this virtuous rhetoric about traitors and smaller stores looks great on an internet forum, but some of us who don't have the, ahem, privilege to live in the US need to deal with absurd exchange rates and parcel forwarding costs to import already expensive physical media. I'll buy on Amazon if it's cheaper because it's the sensible thing to do.

It's just these sales where they just price match another retailer that I skip because I can buy from B&N themselves.

The rhetoric isn't serious. There are a lot of reasons some people would still buy from Amazon or Walmart (who also price match these sales).

With B&N and Criterion themselves you also get a nice bonus with their rewards cashback

In the sales, I do use mostly B+N, but yeah, since I have so many Amazon points, I'm sort of stuck.

But, I did get the one with a broken case and while I could have lived with it, and if had been B+N I probably would have lived with it - screw them, Amazon can pay for the shipping twice.

Yeah I ain't spending 500 dollars I only plan on buying 3, or four titles total. Maybe 5, but most likely 3, or 4

It's something that is cumulative. Criterion actually awards you 1 point per 1 dollar spent on their website. When you reach 500 points they award you a $50 gift certificate. You can take as long as you like to accrue the 500 points. Once the gift certificate is awarded the counter starts all over again until you reach 500 points again.

There's just one hick-up, even if I also buy region A Criterion Blu-rays at Amazon.com:
Amazon.com takes less care with handling and packaging compared to the European branches of Amazon and other vendors. It happens quite often movies reach me with damaged cases or cover inlays. If there's an online vendor they should follow the example, it's FNAC, at least its Belgian-Luxembourgish branch. FNAC's packaging of movies is exemplar.

Echo this. The French branch sends BDs in a large version of the old Zavvi steelbook box, with the disk held securely inside so it doesn't move about. Unbeatable.

My wife used up most of my amazon points the other day.

I straightened her out about that today when her package arrived. (After I'd calmed down for a couple days.)

Planning on buying in October
Lady Snowblood Collection
The Sword of Doom
Cure
Finally going to pick up some more Ozu titles besides Tokyo Story possibly that Floating Weeds set
Branded to Kill and maybe even more Seijun Suzuki too
More Kenji Mizoguchi films
Cure is excellent. Very creepy.

Wait, the B&N sale is over? We still have a couple more days...

I totally forgot Hiroshi Inagaki’s Samurai trilogy starring Toshiro Mifune. It is a trilogy following the life of real life Japanese folk hero Musashi Miyamoto

Also An Actor’s Revenge. Follows the revenge story of a kabuki actor sworn on getting revenge on a family for his parent’s deaths. Has some ninja-like action.
