No problem, and I know what you mean about tough choices, I have had to pick between a few films when I go to get something.

It's more about how much of a film snob one is because they own Salo or 8 1/2, and anyone who doesn't buy those films is too stupid to understand them, and how they would never stoop to buying something like Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School.

Speaking of 8 1/2, I just finished watching it. I found it to be interesting, amusing, boring in parts, confusing, yet, enjoyable. I thought that Guido was an idiot though, and should have treated Luisa better.

Albert Brooks is awesome in just about everything he's in. I agree that he was the best character in the film. William Hurt was a giant douche, and I still thought he was a douche at the end of the film. He was loathsome. Holly Hunter's character, while fantastically acted, was just so stupid! She started out fine, but towards the middle of the film, I really disliked her, although not as much as I hated William Hurt's character. She did redeem herself in the end though, as she didn't go the way William Hurt's character did, although it was looking a little shaky there mid-film. Broadcast news is really one of those films you need to watch repeatedly to really appreciate it. I didn't like it so much the first time I saw it, but it's definitely improved the more I watch it.
I liked William Hurt, although he was def. hard to take sometimes. He just kind of grew on me. I did not care for Holly Hunter, her accent got on my nerves, I hear people talk like that every day, and it gets really old. She was a good character though overall. I have seen Albert Brooks in a few other films, although I do not really remember him. He was so likeable in Broadcast News.

He's not likeable in The Simpsons Movie. I loved him in My First Mister, and he was pretty funny for the short time he was in Private Benjamin.

I can't say I'm really a William Hurt fan, because I haven't seen enough of his films. I will say, I didn't clue in that he was both Tom Grunick and William Marshall in the new Robin Hood film.

Holly Hunter can't help her accent, she's apparently from Georgia, unlike Kyra Sedgwick. I get the two of them confused lately, as they seem to be morphing into each other. I honestly thought Holly was the star of The Closer, not Kyra. I'm not really a fan of Holly's anyways.

I prefer that other actor with the last name "Hurt", John.

classic British actor, I would live to see Criterion get the rights to The Elephant Man.

You mean The Horned King from The Black Cauldron, Olivander from Harry Potter, The original Aragon from LOTR, Ox from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Richard Rich in A Man For All Seasons, and Tim Evans in 10 Rillington Place. I prefer him too.

Him being in Fish Tank helped as he is indeed pretty good (I was glad when I saw he was Magneto in First Class), but it was ultimately the trailer, the story, and the fact that it has a great debut performance in it from Katie Jarvis are what got me interested.

Love your avatar I just watched Paris, Texas. My mom used it in her psychology class to diagnose mental illnesses.

I'll have to rewatch The Simpsons movie, I do not remember seeing him in it. "Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does." I like William Hurt, he's talented imo. I could not picture him as a handsome young man, I'm used to seeing the current William Hurt. He was pretty good looking though. Yeah people cannot help their accents, but she still gets on my nerves. I will not watch The Closer for the same reason.

I don't understand your reasoning for cancelling. The meaning of "timely" is relative here. Suppose I get it in a week or two at the sale price. If you wait until then to reorder, you'd pay a higher price, but you'd get it around the same time I do. On the other hand, if you wait 6 months until the next sale to get it for the sale price, how is that more timely than getting it in 2 weeks?

Doug
It's been three weeks since my first order shipped and it's still not here. It's not like I'm complaining for no reason. I've seen people here unhappy about not getting an order after only a week. To me an order from the US to Canada isn't suppose to take longer than 14 days. And normally it doesn't.

With that being said, my reasoning was based on the fact that I don't want to support a dealer who can't even ship on the same continent in a reasonable amount of time. It's not like I couldn't buy the movie for 26$ shipped from somewhere else. I don't even mind paying 30$ for it if I know I'll get it in a week and not three (or more, who knows).

Hope I've clarified things a bit. With that being said, I bought the movie on eBay for around the same price. Let's see if I get it before the end of the month!

Ironically...neither of my two boys are Scooby-Doo fans...and I was 12 when the series first ran on CBS on Saturday mornings.

I never became a fan of the series and remained a Flintstones/Jetsons/Jonny Quest follower (as far as H-B cartoons), but was/am a major fan of the 40s and 50s WBs and Tom and Jerrys.

Damn it! Who the hell mentioned the Larisa Shepitko Eclipse set? Now I'm considering a purchase. None of the stores stock it...but I can get it from the website for $14.59 complete, if I really want it.

I hate you guys!

Anyone think LOTR films (not trilogy! it's one book!) have a shot at getting spines?

Also, when is the next BN sale?

PS- a symptom of snobbery is elevating lesser (and more obscure) works of an auteur to masterwork level to appear more in-the-know to others.

Yeah, when they took it off CBS, I was still a youngster too. But it has always been one of my favorites. I guess it rubbed off on my daughter. Maybe Criterion can do a boxed set. The extras would be 'groovy'.......
