They've released all of his films but "Fantastic Mr. Fox" but only "Bottle Rocket" and "The Darjeeling Limited" on Blu. The three DVD-only Anderson Criterions that have yet to be released on Blu are absent from the format for two reasons: they were all released before the Blu-ray era and they are all controlled by Disney who hasn't licensed to Criterion in the Blu era.

Now that Disney has licensed "Rushmore" the other two can't be far behind. Fox is Criterion-friendly too and has licensed one of their two Wes Anderson movies so we'll probably get "Mr. Fox".

Anderson could easily have his entire filmography on Blu via Criterion in the next couple years.

Just watched Stagecoach for the first time. Great western!

But my disc has a problem. At around 14:39, it starts to skip, and stops completey at 15:00. It won't play anymore until almost 19:00, so about 4 mins are missing. I cleaned the disc and it is still the same. I have neve had any problem before with any disc so I know it isn't a problem with my player.

I got the disc at B&N during the sale, but I live in Canada so returning it may be a pain in the ass? If I email Criterion, will they hook me up with a replacement disc?

Any chance criterion will release a bluray of "This is Spinal Tap"?

Rushmore on BD is great, great news. November is going to be a fantastic month for me, but not for my wallet.

I'm surprised too. They typically hint at quite a few titles at the beginning of the year with their drawings and hint at maybe one per month in the newsletter. But it's rare they hint at multiple titles for a specific month early. Most of their releases are a complete surprise on announcement day each month.

I think that release has been out of print for DVD for a longtime. Doesn't seem to be a likely release.

Rushmore on blu ray is fantastic news. and if its coming in November that would put it out during the next possible B&N criterion sale.

I hope so because I don't think I can wait until Christmas for it.
When I bought the DVD several years ago it cost $30. $20 or even less for the Blu would be excellent. This is a colorful film and should look wonderful, too.

Well, if it *IS* Rushmore, maybe there's hope for Evita?

Really? I'd consider letting mine go if this is the case.... I need an excuse to buy the Blu-ray anyways (Criterion or not)

Why not release as many Wes Anderson films as they can? They sell.

Seriously. Another Wes Anderson film is what would interest me the absolute least.
If they absolutely have to release one they should go with The Aquatic Life with Steve Zissou, which is the only of Anderson's films I enjoyed.
Evident by the reaction here, you are in the minority. As I said in my post above, Wes Anderson films sell for Criterion, so they will likely keep releasing whatever they can. I say keep them coming. I'm sure there will be other films released in November that interest you.

Not only are a lot of people excited about Rushmore (e.g., there are a torrent of posts on CC's facebook page), but Rushmore was more in need of the Blu-Ray upgrade. Its DVD release is nearly 12 years old and typically sells at double the price of Tennenbaums/Aquatic.

I just wish that Criterion released 10 blu-rays per month because they would sell. There are just so many DVD titles that deserve a Blu-Ray upgrade, not to mention new titles.

this is a Warner owned title. not likely to be Criterion since Warner does not loan out films.

I want to see both Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums finally come to blu-ray.

There's actually 5 Wes Anderson' films that Criterion brought to DVD, and all 5 will probably be on blu-ray eventually. I doubt very much this takes away resources from doing real restoration work on a more "important" film, the timing of releasing these is probably more about marketing factors. In my view Rushmore and Tenenbaums are the only two really good films by W.A anyway. I say about damn time they get around to upgrading at least one of them..

Yep, WA films seem to get the Criterion blu-ray upgrade right before Christmas. Don't expect Life Aquatic or Royal Tennenbaumd until next Novemberish (potentially).

I've never seen Rushmore, so it will be a nice treat.

True, but our bank accounts appreciate Criterion spacing out their releases.
