I agree, hence my "even though they're DVD" comments. His excuse is that a lot of the titles are OOP, and they're CC. In 2008, I got the single disc edition of Brazil for 10 bucks used, and I was happy. Now, not so much when I can get a CC title on BD for 20.

For some people, this might be a huge deal, for most of us here, it's high. I wouldn't spend that much money on used DVDs now. Hell, I wouldn't spend that much money at once on DVDs/BDs. I could think of better things to spend 1700 bucks on. I probably spend that much money on films over the course of a year, maybe more, but all at once, no.

Yep and $10 is a lot of money for 480p and compressed sound. Also, DVD's tend to look very poor on HDTV's.

Not all of them, some of my DVDs look half decent, and I'm stuck with them due to what they are. Not going to see any BD releases for them anytime soon, if at all. Brazil didn't look all that bad, FTR, but I do want Criterion to release their BD version.

I still buy DVDs, but I don't buy used anymore, since new ones are so cheap now, but only of titles I know won't get BD releases. I actually ordered one on Monday, a film called Smile, which is essentially the 1970s version of Drop Dead Gorgeous, with less murder, starring Bruce Dern and Barbara Feldon. It probably would be a good candidate for a CC release. Good thing it was only 10 bucks. I'll pay higher for rarer DVDs, but only if they're new, and never over 20. Before, I'd go as high as 30, but since I began buying BD, I won't pay more than 20 for a new DVD.

Although I knocked the Samuel Fuller films off my list, I still want to buy them eventually, I just need to get other titles first.
I concur with you, however I loved Thin Red Line and New World. For some reason, I couldn't get into Days of Heaven

At least with Thin Red Line and New World, I had some interest in what was going on: historic events involving real characters. With Days of Heaven, the narration (a young girl) never made it clear who this couple was, their move to the farm felt very abrupt, and as the film progressed, I found the couple wasn't very likeable, so wasn't very emotionally invested or cared about what happened to them. Yes, I guess we're all hearing it from a young girl's point of view, so if the couple isn't likeable then perhaps that's because the girl didn't find them too likeable. I'll have to give this another viewing.

I guess you all waited for me to do this, Janus Films new poster for Weekend (I wonder if I should go ahead and sell my New Yorker disc to somebody living under a rock?):

Ohhh I see... I didn't realize he listed anything other than DVDs...

Yeah, he needs money... but who doesn't

I always thought that feature was dependent on the blu-ray player.

This happened to me a while back, except with the Third Man. Replacement case was backordered on the website for like 2 weeks, so I sent an email asking if they would get more in. Got a response back saying they would, and about another week or so, they had them in stock.

Just give it time.

edit: You know what, I take this back. Upon looking at the site, they don't even list the replacement case for Third Man anymore. Hmmmm, interesting...

Still trying to determine at what point "Resume Playback" was first introduced. I've not been actively checking every title, but have been loosely keeping track. So far, I have that it's between Sanjuro (3/23/10) and Black Narcissus (7/20/10). So, one of these dates/titles will be the first to employ it:

4/20
Summer Hours
Vivre Sa Vie

4/27
Ride with the Devil

5/11
M

5/18
Walkabout

5/25
By Brakhage
Stagecoach

6/15
Mystery Train

6/22
Close Up
Red Desert

6/29
Everlasting Moments
Leopard, The

If anybody has info on which of the above has "Resume Playback" that would be great. Thanks.
Neither Mystery Train nor Close Up have the resume playback feature, but Red Desert does. Looks like Red Desert was the first.

Thanks A LOT for sharing !!! Great, after a full year without Godard it is great news to see that it may be coming soon. Let's hope that same poster is the basic outline for the cover art of the BD, it is amazing .

Well, that's interesting - I would have thought the two from that release date would be the same, but there you go. Thanks for the feedback.

When i posted about it the other day, quite a few of you wrote me about it, so i figured i'd let you know my interview with Ron Smith, VP of Preservation and Restoration at Paramount went awesome and is available for reading. It is, however at another site that I write for that may be considered a rival, i suppose, so if anyone wants to peep it, just PM me and I'll give ya a link. For the silent lovers out there, he did says he's been working extensively on "Wings", from 1927, i believe, Didn't have any Blu specifics, but it will def have some sort of theatrical run.

It's 32 for me, but there's a few I'm undecided about.
Is anyone thinking of adding Island of Lost Souls or Phantom Carriage to their collection?
I've not seen either.
