That thread is in the Movie and TV DEALS forum.

That's basically the entire point of that board, and every thread in it. Finding the best price on the movies you want (or an idea for a film that might pop into your head if you saw it for unexpectadly cheap). I frequent that board and cheapassgamer to find the lowest possible prices. I don't think it has much to do with reselling. I severely doubt there is much profitability in reselling anything in this space, save for the people that claim to pay around $10 or $11. Even there I would think it's hardly worth anyone's while to really make a habit of it, that is unless said person was a real deadbeat loser

Oh, can you let us know the outcome of the TTRL emails with him? I'd be interested to know if/when they were correcting it.

Sound, or Silent cut? At least with Criterion, we have a decent chance of it being both, unless the estate made the change permanent--
Good old Criterion anal-retentive completism.

Talking about OCD, I recently purchased Secret Sunshine through the B&N sale. My copy arrived without the Director approved signature sticker and more importantly, the Booklet insert. It seems that a large batch went out without these items. Looking at my local B&N inventory, about half the stock did not have either items (you can actually see the booklet through the clear Criterion case). So check your copy.

Wishlist for tomorrow's announcements:

World On A Wire
Melancholia
Le Samourai
White Dog
A Night to Remember (this would make more sense for an April release)
Robocop (I can dream, right?)

I just finished watching Kuroneko for the first time. Hugely impressed. Haunting and incredibly creepy. Now one of my favorites in the collection.

Sansho the Bailiff was on TCM over the weekend so out of deference to my incredibly limited attention span that is my official guess.

I'm pretty sure Magnolia is going to release Melancholia themselves.

La Dolce Vita

It needs a lot of prayers considering Paramount filed a lawsuit claiming they own the film. I can't see them winning the rights only to license it to Criterion.

So once again:

Hiroshima Mon Amour

If they are going to announce another Japanese film, i think it's time they announced an Ozu or a Mizoguchi. I don't know if I'd rebuy Ugetsu or Sansho the Bailiff (I own the DVDs), but they're both great. And of course Tokyo Story or Late Spring would be good choices.

The good news is that if they filed a lawsuit, they must intend to release it...2012 is the "100th anniversary" and Wings a film that was never released on DVD, is coming out on blu-ray, apparently in January. It's probably wishful thinking, but I'm kind of hoping to see a catalogue release every month celebrating Paramount's history.

i wish drive would get a criterion release... sadly it will be released by sony Hopefully they do a great job

I'm hoping for Blow up, Chinatown, L'avventura (basically anything Antonioni), Persona, any Hitchcock (I'm excited for Lady Vanishes ) or any film with James Cagney.

We need at least one Cagney film on blu ray; my favourites would be Angels with Dirty Faces, Public Enemies, Roaring Twenties or White Heat but any will do

I doubt that they will release any of these as I dont think they currently own the rights to any of these films, but I'm hopeful

They usually do keep it. But nothing prevents folks from printing more.

Greetings everyone,

This is slightly off-topic but something I wanted to share with the fellow cineaste on this thread who are not just passionate about the films but are also interested in the filmmakers as well.

Kino has released a DVD (I know I lost some of you with those three letters...) titled "Great Directors" and it's about Angela Ismailos wanting the opportunity to interview ten filmmakers that inspired her. So, she created a documentary featuring that experience.

Many of the filmmakers have films that are in the Criterion Collection. Featured are Bernardo Bertolucci, David Lynch, Stephen Frears, Agnes Varda, Ken Loach, Liliana Cavani, Todd Haynes, Catherine Breillat, Richard Linklater and John Sayles.

Some of these filmmakers, I felt there was no chance in hell she would have gotten access but she did and what an entertaining and informative documentary it turned out to be.

And what I love about this release is that for the special features, included are the additional footage of the interviews with these filmmakers and I'm not talking short 5-10 minute long features, some of these interviews are a half hour to 50 minutes long.

And of course, with these filmmakers being interviewed, they also go into details of filmmakers that influenced them such as Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard, WM Fassbinder and more.

Anyway, just wanted to plug this documentary. Yes, I know many of you don't buy DVD's anymore but for those who are interested, please check it out!

I'd take those, and a personal favorite - Ragtime.

There's just so much information available on films these days that I find it difficult that someone can't look up some YouTube trailers/clips or read some reviews, then take all of that absorbed information and apply it to how well he/she knows him/herself in determining if certain films would be appreciated.

I like people that can roll with the punches, and I like antimatter... and, I really appreciate his/her effort for better written grammar.

PS... foreign users aside, an initiation of getting called out for terrible written English isn't nearly as bad as the earlier Salò initiation we used to apply.
Not having been able to keep up with the forums like I used to, I actually thought you were talking about something scientific...then I remembered the discussion last night...

I do have a favor, however. Can you look at my collection, as it has grown by a few since my last request, and recommend any films which have slip covers, slip boxes, eco cases, Vortex cases, regular Blu non-eco/Vortex cases, digipaks, or any combination, and let me know of any movies I may potentially like based on my mood for the day. Maybe pick a few for each day of the week without overlapping. If you absolutely have to, you can use the same movie on a Saturday and a Sunday, but only if you count Sunday as the start of the week and Saturday at the end...not Monday through Sunday, where Saturday would be next to Sunday.

And then look up and post the trailers for those films on the site so I could watch them. Finally, be prepared to go out and rent/buy any of the films I like based on those recommendations.
