Yeah, at least the Oscars release their nominations at the crack of dawn, so we can wake up and discuss them over breakfast.

Here, why don't they just release their lists on Tuesday afternoons, so we can wait for them along with the cable repairman?

I guess I was trying to get across the idea that the Coens have a particular knack for bending the genres that they choose to work in, and injecting their films with all sorts of funny asides that merit repeat viewings. I think 'A Serious Man' is a prime example - I could watch that film over and over - it is 'deadly serious' but also excruciatingly funny in a very dark sort of way. I'm no expert on Jewish humour, but it seems like the ultimate expression of it. I suppose that's not everyone's cup of tea.

I am certainly not trying to push films or filmmakers onto you, I'm just responding to some of your comments.

I didn't take your comment to mean that, I simply said it could be taken that way. I wasn't saying you're pushing the Coens on me, but you sure seem to keep hyping their films up.



I'm hoping for some Bergman and Kurosawa for April. Virgin Spring might be too much since Fanny and Alexander was in November, but Kurosawa hasn't had a release since July. The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp would be nice too (watched it again last night), and for new additions, I'd like to see Fail-Safe and The World of Henry Orient.

PM'll get to it, though, it's one of their "core" catalog titles when they want to advertise "Horror" as a demographic genre--That's....as soon as they get around to classic core catalog, though, outside of Grease and Footloose. That's what we used to say about Universal, but Paramount's the last stubborn holdout.
In the meantime, PM's not about to let anybody get their grubby mitts on it, director be darned.

(But, dang, that trailer still freaks you out... )

Downhill Racer was Paramount and Criterion released it. I assume anything is possible, depending...
