I'm not sure what happened (I guess it's normal?) before the start of the 3D previews the screen flashed to this static snow screen and it ended up giving me the biggest headache for awhile.

I wear glasses myself so I'm not a fan of the glasses.. has anyone tried the clip on glasses? My ticket for Titanic at least the convenience fee which was like $1.50 I think I'm guessing it's for the glasses?

Picked up Game of Thrones after work yesterday. Watched half the episodes last night and finished the series today. I'll return the discs tomorrow, and am currently looking through my list of want-to-rent movies. Perhaps a Criterion for Saturday night? We'll see.

I paid $3.50 more for the last 3D flick I saw. I hate paying 1 cent more for something I didn't even want.

I just got back from The Hunger Games. It's one of the best film adaptations of a novel that I've seen in quite awhile, although they did tone down the violence, which wasn't a bad thing. I will admit that I jumped when the Muttation jumped out at Peeta. Also, I had the good fortune of sharing a theatre with the "parent of the year," who was ever so smart, and brought her 9 year old daughter to the 9 PM showing of The Hunger Games. Poor kid was crying through the whole thing. What part of "teenagers killing each other for sport, so don't bring young children or anyone who can't handle violence," do people not understand?

I think I'll be watching World on a Wire tomorrow. I found out that season 5 of Laverne and Shirley is apparently coming out on DVD Tuesday, 4 years after the 4th one was released, so I pre-ordered it as well. I also watched Tintin again, and Burke and hare.

I thought twenty-somethings were adults? And a large chunk of professional Hollywood "actors" are "twenty-somethings". Don't think you have your terminology straight.

And yet here we are voting for its inclusion in the Criterion collection. For a film school student you're being pretty judgmental about a fairly successful $7000 film.

Honestly, If all you want out of a Cameron movie is well executed action, you won't be disappointed, I maintain T2 is one of the very best action films... That said he really needs to stop writing his own scripts.....Please!

You can't deny that he's better than his copycats (Bays Pearl Harbor)
(Im not ashamed to say I prefer Katherine Bigelow)

I can't talk about Bay much because I actually haven't seen that many movies from him (believe it or not). As a producer he as made a lot of horror/slasher movies and I never watch these types of movies because I have no interest in the subject. Has a director only seen The island which I enjoyed because it was similar in a way to Logan's Run and the first Transformers. Never watched The Transfomers so I did not bother with the next two.

I pulled out a bunch of films (for the whole long weekend) and told Mrs Drbikeshorts to choose:
Raging Bull
The Godfather 2
There Will Be Blood
House of Mirth (DVD)
Troy

Yesterday, she chose Raging Bull and she quite liked it. Which was good, because I quite like her and didn't want to have to divorce her
I think The Godfather 2 might be the choice for tonight, because we have the time to watch some of these longer films...

I have nothing again Titanic and don't think it's a mystery why it was such a hit. In fact, it annoys me that people rag on it and ignore the many ways in which it appeals to a lot of people. I think there's a big difference between a film being bad and a film not appealing to you (for whatever reason). Cameron is clearly a skilled director and successfully makes popular cinema.
I'm a fan of 3D, but only when the film has been designed and shot in 3D from the start. I have zero interest in films post-converted to 3D and frankly it's not much of a leap to see the similarity between this process and colourising black and white films.
Cameron, Lucas and their studios are shamelessly cashing in with their recent releases. Good for them, but I'm not biting.
My friends and I even made sure to see John Carter in 2D, because Andrew Stanton shot it in 2D and then it was handed over to someone else at Disney or Pixar to be converted to 3D. Btw, it's not without its faults, but John Carter is good film

I actually tought Titanic was good, he did a good job of it. Did not commented much on it here since there is a thread for it but he avoided some of his usual silly tricks for it.

Unfortunately 3D is just not for me. I always had problem with it because of my vision. Even the shorts you have at places like Disney World I always disliked cause I can't see anything. I dislike it even more in theaters cause it's for 2 hours, it's very uncomfortable to wear the glasses over my own glasses, it turn's everything dark and out of focus and on top of it all they charge me more money for all of that

True story: my friend and I were seeing The Passion all those many years ago in a very crowded cinema.
The guy behind us had brought his two children. One looked 6-ish and the other looked younger.
So, the film starts and the kids are bored and one of them keeps saying, "Where's Jesus? Where's Jesus?"
Finally, there's a shot of Jesus, half seen in the fog. The camera comes closer and there he is, with long shaggy brown hair and a big beard and suddenly one of the kids behind us calls out, "Look, it's the guy from Lord of the Rings!"
That's still one of the best laughs I've ever had in the cinema.
The Passion is without a doubt one of the most violent films I've ever seen, so it's extraordinary that a parent would think it's appropriate to bring a child. In this case, I was glad to note that these two kids behind us had actually fallen asleep by the end of the film, so I hope they were spared the sight of Jesus being literally whipped to pieces.

I was at the 11:30pm showing of the South Park movie where someone brought their two five year olds. They didn't fall asleep though, they ran up and down the aisles between dick jokes.

I actually like the Hunger Games. I went in expecting another tween romance twilight double but it was actually pretty good. I admit though, what got me in the theater in the first place was Jennifer Laurence ( she was great in Winters Bone) but I left very entertained. It was a lot better than I thought it would be that's for sure.

As did I. I own the books, and have been waiting for a chance to go see it. I had actively avoided the first book, because Stephanie Meyer said it was brilliant on the cover, and I'm one of the few females in the world who hates all things Twilight (how many of you expected that I enjoyed it being a Monkees fan and all? ) I couldn't even finish the first Twilight book. I still have 100 pp left, and it's been 4 years. I quite literally downed a full bottle of rum reading what I did read of the first book, before I threw it across the room in frustration at how terrible it was. Fortunately, I decided to do some research, and decided not to judge the book by the Meyer quote on the cover. I can't wait until Catching Fire comes out.

My mom wanted to see that one due to all the controvery surrounding it. We had the pleasure of viewing it in a theatre of traumatised, hysterical, highly religious, little old ladies in their 70s and 80s.

I last watched almost a year ago. I'm embarrassed to say I don't specifically recall that, but it sounds familiar... and contrived.

In my defense, I was showing it to a friend who is an encyclopedia of sci-fi books, and he wanted to pause periodically to talk about it so my memory is more about the labyrinthine science than specific scenes. It was also part of a long, talky double feature with Jerome Bixby's "The Man from Earth" and I'm beginning to tangle the two.

I had a similar experience at Pulp Fiction. The kids were so restless and distracted that I was probably more traumatized by their presence than they were by the badass motherf*ckery on-screen.

Last semester I had a student who wanted to write an analysis of Twilight, fortunately, in the syllabus I gave myself an out that a literary essay is acceptable if it's based on material I had read. Bless that freshman's heart she was shocked I hadn't read Stephanie Meyers's tome. She almost got the last laugh though by instead turning in an essay on the history of vampires in literature. That history, apparently, practically starts and ends with Twilight.

She didn't even reference The Monstrous Monkee Mash" (featuring the sparkly-eyed Davy Jones).
