Quite a classic. It's actually far from a cheesy story, I mean compared to the other 30+ plus movies made since 1954 The tone of it was actually quite serious at the time. Hope you enjoy it!

So how is everyone today? Having a day off? I took my wife to see Titanic in theaters. The 3D was bad for me as usual because of my glasses but the movie was good for a James Cameron movie Sorry I am really not a fan of his at all.

Beside that well I am in my Easter weekend movie watching mode, just completed Jesus Christ Superstar.

I despise 3D for several reasons:

1.Wearing glasses over my glasses
2. Tinting and darkening the image
3. It does 0 to draw me into a story
4. It's more of a detraction than an addition.
5. Unless the 3D is profound, I forget it's even there.
6. It gives me a headache
7. It costs more money!!

Godzilla is kind of like Dracula to me.

Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein weren't just good monster movies, they were good movies period. Some of the other classic creatures? Not so much. Dracula was right in between. Not campy or cheesy exactly but you do have to kind of meet it halfway.

Godzilla isn't a B-movie but you do need to grade it on the appropriate curve.

Those are pretty much my problems as well. The images are bad and on top of it they ask me for more money for it But made my wife happy, she cried all the way to the ending she was so happy

The 2009 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, The Hurt Locker, was shot using Aaton Super 16 mm cameras and Fujifilm 16 mm film stocks.

I just never really like most of what he did. I did not enjoy the Terminator movies. I hated Aliens! I fell asleep watching True Lies and I won't bother repeating how much I "loved" Avatar The only movie he made I actually enjoy is The Abyss.

I agree that the Abyss is definitely Cameron's best.

I agree. Watching the Criterion was the first time I had seen the original Japanese version of Godzilla. I could not believe how good it is. Very moving in places, and strongly pays respectful and frightening homage to Japan's WWII experience of fire-bombed cities.

It was a huge contrast from Destroy all Monsters, which I had watched a few weeks earlier. DAM was a childhood favorite when it came on TV, but I had not seen it in over twenty years. Fun movie seeing it again after so long, but it is a bit sad how cheesy they transformed the Godzilla character in the 14 years since the original. From frightening Japanese nighmare to kiddie matinee monster kickin' butt .

Once you start mass producing a series of movies from an original, as time goes by it can't help but becoming cheesy. Each movie being succesful and each time trying to increase your audience make's it be that you do your best to make the story broader and more appealing to a greater group of people. Godzilla felt into this trap, from the first movie who had a serious tone a a very direct message and warning to the entire human race "mess with mother nature at your own peril cause she will mess you back in a worst way then you can manage it" to let's make Godzilla savior of Tokyo everytime a new monster appears

That's no excuse, man. I went to film school, and when I see twenty-somethings cast as adults, it brings me straight back to Narrative 101. There are plenty of adult actors who are willing to work cheap or free -- hiring your friends is just lazy. And worse, it's a telltale mark of student filmmaking.

I admit I'm stuck on the word "angsty"... the acting is underplayed almost to the level of a Bresson film with the emotions neatly tucked away. The film is cold, the antithesis of angst.
I admit it's been a few years since I first watched Primer... Has my memory distorted the ending where the protagonist
[Show spoiler] brings a shotgun to a Solo cup party
? Because that's exactly what a 23-year-old would think is edgy.
