This is true.

But, did we all really believe Barnes & Noble would totally pass up a much-needed opportunity to rake in truck loads of cash?

Thanks for clarifying. The fact that there are no supplements is a major disadvantage in my book against the AK 100 set. For a while I had thought about not buying the individual Kurosawa blu-ray releases because of the existence of the AK 100 set but I now know that, at least for now, the single-disc packages are the way to go.

If anyone knows any coupon codes, feel free to be generous and share.
Theres a $5 off orders of $50+ online code for members (W8X8Y4N) and a 15% off one item for Visa card holders (Y4A7P7U) but thats about all I can find.

Im using the 15% on the three colors trilogy cause it gives me $6 off (YIIPEE a whole extra dollar saved!) but i feel like waiting around for a better coupon so i havent made any orders yet

Yes, the novel is Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I highly recommend it. The first part of the trilogy follows pretty closely with the book, but the second and third parts have been drastically changed. The gist of the story plays out pretty much the same as the novel, but things in the trilogy are either out of order with the novel, omitted, or changed entirely.

I'll add it to my huge list of "Criterion Collection films adapted from novels I must read list." I'll look for it tonight, as I need to charge my ereader anyways (I'm starting to read Gone With the Wind, been putting it off for years), Stranger in a Strange Land just about did me in yesterday (sexist, racist, homophobic, and nonsensical did the second half become, best sci-fi novel of the 20th Century my foot! No wonder the hippies loved it. Give me Vonnegut over Heinlein any day!), and I'm getting bored with the North and South trilogy by John Jakes.

I'm still waiting to get my BD copy of The 39 Steps do I can start that one. I read Rebecca last week and enjoyed the hell out of it. Old Danny was even more sadistic in the novel than the film.

Rushmore is worth the blind buy. Bottle Rocket, I'm not so sure on. I enjoyed it, for the most part, but definitely didn't like it as much as his other films and I'm not sure that it was worth purchasing.

There are... things... that I would do to get both of those films on BD. Terrible things...

Predictably, I missed out on the B2G1 combo with the Criterion sale. I picked up...

The 39 Steps
Being John Malkovich
Branded to Kill
The Samurai Trilogy

...and I easily could have purchased five or eight more if I'd been up at the right time.

I'm still thinking about:

The Lady Vanishes
Solaris
Three Outlaw Samurai
Harakiri

That depends on how profitable it actually is for them. It might not really be profitable at all, just as a traffic generator and way to keep some interest in media sales where otherwise there is none. Hopefully even if the dismantling of media departments from physical stores gets more widespread, they keep the tradition of Criterion sales going online. However, nothing is a given.

Missed out on the B2G1/50% sale last night, had titles in cart and as I was filling out info, total price went up right at midnight.

I originally only wanted The 400 Blows, Paris Texas, and Wings of Desire but, got Breathless to take advantage of the 50% off. I hope that I don't need to get anymore during the sale because my family is going to Disney's California Adventure/Los Angeles at the end of the month and I need to save up for that.

Did anybody else noticed how the boxart from Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage is updated in the Criterion site? I don't remember this title being reissued. Here is the picture:

Here is the previous cover for comparison:

I think they just re-packaged it a while back. I got mine a couple years ago, and shortly after, noticed that that newer look is the one it's being sold as on amazon...

Damn! I thought it may have been an early leak from the next slate ! What I am wondering at the moment is why do they change the cover for this title and not for others? I wonder if there is a certain "criteria" for it .

Yeah, Scenes From A Marriage received updated packaging a while back to reflect Criterion's current clear 2-disc overlap DVD packaging style and the newer "C" logo. This happened to the Beastie Boys 2-disc set, as well, along with a few others... the original DVD of The Rules Of The Game before the complete re-release. I'm sure it just happens on older titles when they finally run out of stock and it's time to repress and reprint the discs.

I do hope this thread isn't going to be flooded with people posting their hauls, like it did the last time, and the time before that, and the time before that...

Too late....

Bloody hell, why can't I find an English translation of Zazie in book format? I really want to read the novel!
