I also appreciated the short, but informative special feature for each movie by historian William Scott Wilson. Sometimes I prefer stuff like that compared to titles that have too many special features that go over the same stuff or are sometimes just downright boring stuff.

Someone refresh my memory. If your a B&N member don't you get a 10% discount online ? Because I'm not.
I watched the trilogy on DVD this spring before they announced it and absolutely loved it. It can be very melodramatic at times, but if you let yourself go and just enjoy the movie for what it is, it is definitely worth watching. I can't wait to check out the blu release, although I will probably have to wait until the November sale.

Anyone interested in the Samurai Trilogy should really read the novel. I liked the trilogy, but I read the novel about a month before I watched the trilogy and it was about a hundred times better. The trilogy just leaves SO MUCH out from the book.

I think your right. I must have forgot. Guess I need to hunt down some coupons for a instore purchase.

Wish I had made the Buy 2 get 1 free deal.

Novel? I will seek it out once I watch the trilOgy! I'm watching the films first and then going back to the source material to see how well they were adapted. It's so I don't end up too disappointed in the films.

Meh, I could care less. I would have had to have been up at 3AM. I'm happy I was able to get Samurai Trilogy for 30 bucks with the visa coupon. I didn't have much left to buy on my top list, now only 3, but I can wait a little longer on them.

with the visa coupon, does it have to be a visa credit card or can it be a visa debit card?

With so many people so sure this sale was not happening its kind of surreal that its finally here. Being able to get an order in with the overlap of sales was just icing on the cake!

It just has to be VISA-branded, I believe. I use my VISA check card/debit card issued by BofA with no problems.

I used a Canadian Visa Credit Card. So it works for Canadians. Dunno about Visa debit cards, I honestly never heard of one unless you mean those prepaid things. Debit cards to me are bank cards that take cash directly from my bank account and is issued by my bank.

This is the reason that I sold off my set. I want the commentaries! I was extremely disapointed that they did not include any special features.

I placed 2 orders with the 50% off and B2, G1 Free last night. If I had more cash on hand as it were, I would have ordered more.

I got:

La Haine
Being John Malkovich
Summer With Monika

And Everything Is Going Fine
Gray's Anatomy
Certified Copy

My birthday is next week and the girl I've been dating and I were on the phone talking about the double sale. I told her 2 sets of 3 that I wanted, so we will see what I get. If I'm really lucky she went mad and ordered all of them:

Blus:

Samurai Trilogy
Summer Interlude

DVD:

Golden Age Of Television
Monsters And Madmen
Paul Robeson: Portraits Of The Artist
3 Silent Classics By Josef Von Sternberg

Yeah, I ordered a trio of titles around 1.30am this morning (see my earlier post). I've finally put together an initial list of possibilities and will probably place another order late tonight or tomorrow.

If anyone knows any coupon codes, feel free to be generous and share.

No, Banned, B&N members do not receive an additional 10% discount online. They do, however receive free two-day shipping. (I'm speaking as a current member.)

Samurai Trilogy is 100% blind buy based on my love for Toshiro Mifune.

It's one of the few blind buys I have left. And it's been ordered and I expect to enjoy it. I'm just surprised by the lack of discussion on it.
The Samurai Trilogy is one of the sets at the top of my list. It's also a total blind buy for me. Toshiro Mifune, who I've seen in a number of other films, is a terrific actor and it's one of the reasons I will buy the set. The main reason, though is that it just seems like a compelling story.
