Not a big fan of Pasolini's TRILOGY OF LIFE but it's still a heavyweight release.
Ditto for me. Very solid month, but On the Waterfront was the one I was really hoping for (among the "known" titles).

I will probably get Rashomon and Weekend right away as sure things to own on blu-ray.

Not so sure on Heaven's Gate, I might have to check this one out on Hulu first. Even if I enjoy a film usually I don't turn around and buy right away after streaming on Netflix or Hulu. I usually like to wait a year or two.

Trilogy of Life will probably have to wait due to the cost, maybe if it pops up on Hulu I will check it out. Regardless, it doesn't sound like something I will actually buy to watch time and time again. Plus it's $80.

That Eclipse set sounds like it would be right up my alley, however again I will probably have to find the right time to buy it rather than dive into it right away. Especially considering I have only watched 1 of the 4 Eclipse sets I've bought this year.

Where's Spidey? Has he passed out from excitement and shock over Trilogy of Life and Week End?

Even the best films I find hard to rewatch so soon after seeing them. If I rented a DVD to decide whether I wanted to buy a film on Blu, the purchase would be pointless for a long time as I'd probably take at least a year to rewatch it.

That's why the more acclaimed Criterion releases that I've never seen I just buy outright (at about $35 a pop, having to import to the UK), and I've been satisfied with my purchases 100% of the time.

Rashomon and Weekend for me. The Trilogy looks interesting but I don't know much about it.

You just have to get your priorities straight!
Criterion Bluray > Air > Water > Food > Shelter.

Weirdly, the most "wanted" for me is the Shochiku Horror Eclipse set (blasphemy!). I'll at least get the most rewatch out of it.

Weekend and Heaven's Gate will both still probably happen though. Good job, Criterion.

Criterion has the Weekend art up on Week End when you sort by director for BD titles.

Yup. The whole point to me is to see new films in their best possible quality. Streaming it first would kind of spoil the blu-ray purchase for me, so I only stream things I feel like I don't want to purchase any time soon. If I could stream everything at perfect 1080p I would probably never buy, but my internet is a little borderline at the moment. So I'm either choosing from a blu-ray presentation, or something that borders more on being SD (even if they have an HD stream available usualy I'm not getting enough signal strength to maintain it).

I'm definitely in for that Eclipse set--it's a nice surprise for me. Week End and the Trilogy are also definite buys for me.

It depend, I sometime get lucky and Amazon.ca as certain new releases on pre-order below $30 intead of the usual $40+ they ask for Criterion usually. Those Eclipse sets are always at high prices up here however

Yeah there was a pre-order on a couple of titles awhile back that was under $20 (think it was Anatomy of a Murder and World on a Wire). I jumped all over that since those were titles high on my wishlist. But those opportunities are rare. Usually I just wait out the sales and then "stock up" on whatever I missed.

I knew the Week End cover looked a bit off to me ! The font on the cover is a lot thicker than the one in the Janus poster. I prefered the thin font, the new one looks off to me .

Does this mean we'll get The Blob soon?

La Promesse Blu-ray REVIEW

The new video interview (over an hour long) is a good enough reason to highly recommend this disc. Everything you need to know about the Dardennes, their style, and work is there
