Honestly, I don't care what they release. I'm buying most of it, because it allows me to discover movies I've never watched before and which almost never disappoint me (same with Masters of Cinema and Gaumont.).

Don't get me wrong. Some months announces are quite disappointing to me, and some releases could be better.

This year, in 9 months, I bouth from Criterion 42 releases, and should have, for the whole 2012 year, around 50.
That's close to 4 releases a month (knowing that I also bought some titles released last year).

When you look at their current "Coming soon" page, you find In the mood for love, The Game, Sunday Blood Sunday, Rosemary's Baby, Pasolini's Trilogy of Life, Rashomon, Weekend, Heaven's Gate, Brazil, Following, Purple Noon and the Qatsi Trilogy.

So, Fincher, Godard, Wong Kar-wai, Polanski featuring Cassavetes, Pasolini, Kurosawa, Cimino, Delon and all.

I'm quite sure there is here to suit a lot of various spectators, mainstream or not.

But again, I don't care. Because I enjoy The Royal Tenenbaums and The Game the same than The War Room and Anatomy of a Murder.

To those of you hipsters whining about "mainstream releases", take a look at Criterion in the LaserDisc days. They released artsy stuff, sure, but there were a lot of big movies they released (for God's sake, they released Armageddon and The Rock!!) so just be thankful they've changed their ways. Really, Badlands and The Game aren't mainstream, they just feel that way compared to films like M and Ikiru. At least they're not releasing Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakel.

Went to a double bill of Le Jetee/Vivre Sa Vie today.

A strange thing happened in Chapter 12 of Vivre Sa Vie. There was some laughter at the final scene of the film.

Am I missing something here?

What's with the Malick hate today? Is there someone here who didn't like badlands? I still think it's one of the best films of the 70's. Who wouldn't want a Criterion of that?

Like laughter in the audio of the film, or laughter from the people in the theatre?

Maybe we're taking a break from the Wes Anderson hate.

Even better they could release a set of the 2 Garfield films with full Bill Murray commentary tracks for each.

Can you imagine the funky cover art for both of these?

Hard to imagine that that fake Criterion cover website hasn't already covered this.

Not to discredit Pro-B's review but does anyone find it odd that the review differs so much from the one that dvdbeaver.com did? Guess I won't know which one is more accurate until I get my hands on it.

Criterion ought to consider looking into giving Tetsuo: The Iron Man and American Movie their own releases. What do you fellas think?

I assume either Children of Paradise or In the Mood For Love?

I've watched Children of Paradise and I quite like it. It's certainly different-looking than before, but even with the supposed filtering, there's still an abundance of detail. And the silvery sheen of the contrast (to me, anyway) adds to the dreamlike quality of the visuals.

They also released Ghostbusters, the first 3 James Bond films, Raging Bull, Halloween, Se7en, The Producers, The Princess Bride, Blade Runner, Shampoo, Silverado, Boyz in the Hood, Pulp Fiction, Dead Presidents (!), Supercop (!), Time Bandits, Carrie, etc etc etc. Lots of mainstream fare. It's always been part of their agenda.

I would happily accept any of these back into the collection, though from this list I most want: Raging Bull, Halloween, Pulp Fiction and Dead Presidents.

Wow, I must have been tired last night. I was referring to In the Mood for Love, specifically the video transfer.

My apologies
