In case I haven't mentioned this before, I ordered these from the Criterion sale:
The Gold Rush
Pale Flower (blind buy, but the trailer looks absolutely fantastic)
Eclipse series of Nikkatsu Noir

For anyone who has a copy of The Game in their possession:

Does the text on the packaging look overly dark to you? I saw the copies in Best Buy last night, and the text is kind of hard to read. The spone is almost impossible to see...thought it was weird looking.

On another note, our BB got 2 copies each of The Game and Eating Raoul.

Some kid was waiting at customer service for help finding The Game, because our wonderful media specialists (the Anderson reps) like to leave all new releases on the table in the warehouse on Tuesday mornings.

I like seeing random people come to Best Buy to buy Criterions.

I think that both of these reviews were affected by the crash. I actually removed some extra characters that were added in the text fields (I assume during the crash) after I saw HyperRealist's post.

I can see the reviews, but it seems like regular members, or at least a pretty good number of members, can't. There are other administrators that can see them as well, so it is definitely crash related.

The reviews will be fixed

As collectors of the very high quality Criterion Blu-ray packages, I'm wondering what you all think of the Twilight Time releases?

I didn't get to partake in the flash sale like you lucky yanks, but my order from that crazy eBay guy FINALLY came today. It took so long I was convinced it was a scam and I was getting nothing.

But I was wrong to doubt. Che, Darjeeling, Rushmore, and Pigs/Pimps/Prostitutes all arrived, brand new, definitely genuine, all for under $32. Once in a lifetime Criterion deal that I reckon.

Another one to own is ECLIPSE SERIES 4: RAYMOND BERNARD.

Wooden Crosses
Raymond Bernard 1932

Hailed by the New York Times on its Paris release as “one of the great films in motion picture history,” Raymond Bernard’s Wooden Crosses, France’s answer to All Quiet on the Western Front, still stuns with its depiction of the travails of one French regiment during World War I.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Les misérables
Raymond Bernard 1934

Hailed by film critics around the world as the greatest screen adapation of Victor Hugo’s mammoth nineteenth-century novel, Raymond Bernard’s dazzling, nearly five-hour Les misérables is a breathtaking tour de force, unfolding with the depth and detail of its source.

I do agree with the Jean Grémillon set also. It is one of the best releases by Criterion this year.

I have never seen Hard Eight, but it would fit in with the recent-ish trend of releasing early films by current directors. And, with The Master in theaters now, Criterion might be able to time the release with the blu-ray release of The Master.

They look a little classier than the standard blu-ray case. At least we don't have to worry about Criterion using eco cases or anything like that.
you make a very good point about the eco cases. maybe ill keep this one now. ill have to think about it. the movie hasnt stopped stairng at me in the face and mocking me from my shelf since i bought it. it makes me so

what you fine fellows call trolling i call bringing up sincere engaging conversation about blu ray packaging. either way im not trolling (shame on all of you for using a word like that so freely). why not just call me a ****** *****? anyway i love you all i consider everyone of you my bluray brothers in arms. we carry out the mission. that mission is spreading the gospel of high definition.

now that im a card carrying member of the criterion nation again i will come here and talk criterion with you good people all the time now

It is only making you angry because it's the only one. You need more. 197 more, to be precise.

I rented Badlands from Netflix. I'm watching it right now and it's good so far. It definitely needs an upgrade though. I noticed that Warner Bros. doesn't actually own the rights, so a Criterion is possible.

Who says Warner does not have the rights to Badlands? As far as I know they still retain worldwide rights to the film.

What is everyone going to do if Warner releases a Special Edition of the film on Blu ray? Is it still going to be expected to be a Criterion release. Is the "C" on the cover really that important if there is a excellent WB release?

This obsessive love for the film and Malick is insane. Yeah, it is a very good film. But there are so many others that are just as good or better from better filmmakers.

Default Laserdisc Criterions

I don't own as many Criterions as i would like. Honestly , I'm cheap and i hate to blind buy films and find i spend $25 on a film i watch at best twice. However when i was younger i had a two jobs. One for my bills and the other for my film habbit . I was buying Criterion Collection laserdiscs at $125 a pop. Remember that titles like BLADE RUNNER! GHOSTBUSTERS, 2001 AND THE GRADUATE were titles they had . Then there was buyingTHE KILLER, DEAD PRESIDENTS ,TRAINSPOTTING , and even SUPERCOP! This is when i tried to slow down my buying but then dvd came and so on . I think the worst Criterion i bought was EVITA. It was actually a great set its just that i watched it once and didn't care for it. It was a$125 blind buy that still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I still have a handful of my laserdiscs, hoping for some of those older titles to come out.

Wow, I didn't even know they released half of those films in Criterion.

I'm not sure why you're so surprised. Malick is a divisive filmmaker, his films produce extreme reactions on both ends of the spectrum, Tree of Life cemented that and I think his latest (which I saw at TIFF) will even further that.

I don't care who releases it first...I will buy it. If a Criterion comes out later, I will buy it as well (and most likely sell the other).
