I liked it, but I didn't love it.

It's not Kurosawa, but it's not meant to be.

It's been awhile since I saw it, but I remember thinking it's not in the same class as the others you mentioned. Having said that, it is cheaper. I think it's a safe blind buy.

I definitely can't vote for it yet - I've never seen it. I might have a shot at seeing it before voting closes though...it feels like it will be in the watch sooner rather than later category.

Well, hope so, couldn't stand it in the theater.
I'm guessing on the second view, I WON"T want to throw my popcorn box at an imaginary Wes, and tell the snooty-ass b*****d to grow up and get a childhood, already.

Speaking of not Kurosawa, Sword of Doom needs a blu upgrade.

This is a long shot, I realise, but does anyone have a spare replacement case for The Third Man?

I recently bought a copy, and it has the cardboard cover. I was hoping that I could track down a plastic case. I contacted Criterion, and they don't have any left.

Thanks!

If you go to the link in my signature, there is a Third Man file, it's an exact replica of the real cover. Print it out and you'll be good to go. Might be your best bet.

I finally bit and got The Rock for 14.99 new at Amazon and Armageddon new for 31.96 straight from Criterion's store and BOTH of these new DVDs came in with no booklet inside. What the ****?

Can I hit up Criterion for just the booklets? I have never seen them neglect older DVDs before and this worries me for when I want to go back and fill in the DVDs I don't have from the earlier spines.

Why do you have to resort to calling Wes a 'snooty-ass b*****d'? He seems like a perfectly nice chap to me, based on interviews I've seen with him and the commentaries I've listened to on the Criterion discs.

Anyone know when the $17.99 sale is over for Criterion titles on Amazon?

These are the thoughts of a rational person.

I don't have a problem with nudity at all. The thing is, there's a very limited time frame when I can watch films with nudity in them. I heard the content of Salo is extreme though. I find it very intriguing, but I can definitely wait a while to own it.

Excellent! So glad to see that Badlands will finally get the Criterion treatment it deserves. In my opinion every Terrence Malick film should be on Criterion, even though Tree of Life got a perfect release on 20th Century Fox. Once Badlands comes out on Criterion, I think The New World might as well be included too. That particular film's first 42 minutes contain some absolutely beautiful sequences.

My copy of The Last Emperor on Blu-ray came without a booklet and I bought it new from Barnes and Noble. I e-mailed Mulvaney about it, and he said unfortunately they can't send just a booklet.

Hmmm, sounds like maybe it's not going to hold up to repeat viewings? Thinking I'll pass on it. Thanks though.......

Superb! Glad to see more Mike Leigh fans here! Why can't there be more films like Naked? Maybe I'll make the sequel to that one.

I would have to agree. That "dark" film really sticks out in the Mike Leigh film canon. I wish there was a director who made every film in the style of Naked. Well maybe Lars Von Trier might come close but for some reason I simply cannot stand his films.
