Anyone know what the hell is up with Barnes & Nobles? I've been waiting for them to ship my Kenji Mizoguchi Eclipse which was to have shipped by November 27th and it still hasn't. I can understand that they may still be waiting on stock, but now Purple Noon hasn't shipped yet despite the fact that I ordered on Oct. 30th and I have seen an in stock note on the item. Starting to get really ticked off.

Why does this site's database indicate that "Stagecoach" and "The Killing" contain two movies? Criterion shows these as one movie with an extra feature that may or may not be interesting. Just to be cynical, I'll ask: Did someone make the site's database indicate two movies to boost his/her movie count? Whatever the reason, it's done inconsistently: "The Killing" has "The Killing (The Killing / Killer's Kiss)" and "Stagecoach" has "Stagecoach + Bucking Broadway." Criterion does not show the second title on either movie's front cover.

I know that I might solve the problem with the database entries for the Criterions by counting by SKU instead of database movie count; however, I have at least one Blu-ray, for example "Dirty Harry / Magnum Force," which is counted as two movies in the database and the Blu-ray has both titles shown on the front cover. I prefer to have that counted as two movies.

P.S. El Mariachi / Desperado is another example where it's done right -- the front cover indicates it's a "double feature" and has both titles, each in a different font, and its database entry indicates that there are two movies.

PS: "Blow Out" is another example of a Criterion release containing two movies, according to the site's database; however, the front cover makes no mention of the second movie, which is a supplement, which may or may not be interesting.

A possible solution to this is to permit users to have custom database entries, which could be derived from the site's entry. For example, in my custom entry for "Stagecoach," I could list it as one movie. And to digress a little, it would be nice to be able to have a movie in more than one category. To digress further, the database would be better if it allowed custom/alternate covers. But the best solution to "Stagecoach" is probably to list it as one movie in the database and mention in a review/synopsis that the package contains a certain supplement, which is the way Criterion has handled it.

I recieved my Three Colors trilogy from the B&N sale the other day, and the White disc was the second printing.

I try to watch the films themselves within the first couple of weeks. The only one I haven't gotten around to yet it Rosemary's Baby...maybe this weekend.

I'm not a completist with labels...just with directors...

I watch mine ASAP, only exception was the two Carne films because I had other stuff on the go at the time they came. They have been watched though. The only titles I haven't watched yet in my collection are ones still in the mail or are preorder as far as Criterions are concerned.

Change of subject, I love how everyone praises b&n during the sale and then constantly *****es after it ends. Never fails. I'm also still waiting for stuff to ship, but after contacting customer service, apparently the large amount of people ordering stuff, combined with Hurricane Sandy has screwed up getting some stuff out in a timely manner. Also, I've had a few screwed up orders and B&N have been more than fair in refunding money and allowing me to keep the wrong item. If you know service has been bad, why do you keep buying from them?

finally, as far as the movie count thing goes, It's always arbitrary. You can easily go in and change them, but people will just change them back. A lot of titles have incorrect specs on them, and several don't even exist in the database at all. there are entries created for releases that don't even exist in anticipation for a release.

BTW, where is P@t these days?

In this economy...you are not alone. That was the main reason for my getting Hulu Plus...a chance to check out a lot of these films (and those not released on disc yet) and save money. And there are STILL a ton of films in my queue that I have yet to get to. Fortunately, Hulu will email you when a film or TV show is going to expire soon.

I'm in the same boat. They were supposed to ship my Heaven's Gate on Nov. 20. Still has not shipped. Even more frustrating, Amazon has now lowered the price on this blu-ray to the same amount I was getting from BN during the sale. I called their customer support, and they can't cancel the order. They said the order has already been sent to their warehouse.

Oh, but I can certainly return the item when I get it for a full refund. Gee thanks, BN. A lot of hassle for nothing.

In my case, I didn't own any Criterion blurays before last summer. (The Harold and Maude release pushed me over the edge). I also became a B&N member for the first time last summer. I've been trying to buy what I think I'd like during the 50% off sales ... otherwise I'm not sure I'd pay that much (at regular price). I'm not sure if I'm going to renew my membership next summer or not, so I'm sort of stockpiling. That was my thinking going in ... but after watching a few Criterions, I might be hooked (to say the least).

I would love to watch them all that quickly, and you would think it would be possible, given that I watch a movie almost every day, but it just doesn't happen. The ones that I don't get to watch as quickly as I would like are the longer ones. Most movies I have to watch in small chunks, since we have a four month old who takes up a lot of time, so I try to watch shorter movies since I can get through them in a day. Also, if I haven't seen something I try to save it for a night when I can watch it all in one sitting, which means it takes longer to watch titles that are new to me.

Obviously that pissed me off quite a bit, but I decided to accept it and be patient. So what did I finally receive a couple of days ago? 7 of 8 CC's. Purple Noon, the reason my entire order was delayed until Dec. 4, was not included and wasn't even on the slip in the box! Luckily, I got in on ordering it from Amazon while it's on sale.

Does B&N do crap like that often?

It's only the 3rd time I've ordered anything from them.
I've never had problems in the past but I ordered: rashomon, brazil, and purple noon at the beginning of the sale. They just shipped rashomon a day ago and no word on the others!

For all the people having problems with Barnes, I suggest a phone call and not an e-mail. I have had NO problems with them for years. My last order from them was for the 2 11/13 releases, and it had a problem. They never released the order from the warehouse. The CS lady said the computer never updated it for release and said if I never called it still may be sitting there. That red flagged me on them and I have since cancelled my 12/4 releases and ordered from Best Buy( which will be here today ironically). I am beginning to think that Barnes does not have the resources anymore for these type of online sales. Their computer system and CS is lacking lately with all the complaints on this forum. It used to be Deep Discount that took the beating, but that seems to have changed...

BTW: I just got my ship conf. for DIE NIBELUNGEN from DD. They finally have it in-stock after a 2 week BO. Worth the wait for $18..

I usually get to a film almost every night, so I am mostly caught up, except for the Grémillon Eclipse set. I got to Remorques, which is fantastic, but not the other 2. It's tough to keep up, as I am a big hoops fan and with my Bulls missing Rose for another 3 months or so, its been interesting....

Default My Barnes and Noble Order

I did receive everything from my order but it arrived about a week later then expected. The problem I experienced was I used several gift cards and a credit card and , long story short, it took about 4 days to process my order before it could be placed. Once I received my order, all was forgiven though. Now I have ROSEMARY'S BABY, SHALLOW GRAVE, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, 12 ANGRY MEN, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, ANTICHRIST, SOLARIS, THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST and BRAZIL. Very happy with my order but I'm sitting on these until Christmas as a gift from myself. I'll add SOMETHING WILD to the pile that I just ordered from Amazon.

For one of my orders, I received an opened copy of Mystery Train rather than a shrink-wrapped copy. They expedited a new one to me, and I did have the hassel of sending the old one back. That said, I figure as long as you get what you ordered and paid for, and sometimes you get something extra, works for me!

As I said, B&N was affected by Sandy to a slight extent, which is why someone titles are delayed, or so I was told by CS. Yeah it sucks to wait, but at the same time, a lot of companies I order from are still having issues with shipping and supply. I think these delays are not the norm, and are only occurring due to Sandy combined with the Criterion sale. I know a lot will say the storm was a month ago, but stuff like that can leave a longer impact.

I'm thinking about taking my screwed up order into the closest brick and mortar B&N and seeing if they will switch out the titles that I need. That would avoid the post office hassle and waiting and hoping they don't screw up again. Anyone ever done that?

Pretty sure it says on their website that you can do that, because any other store that has a physical location allows it. I think there is a time limit from when you get the order though.

I've returned a couple online purchases instore and I did a straight swap for a damaged case and it went very smoothly.

Your order is really goofy though. You probably wouldn't have any trouble swapping Senso for Rashomon or some other title with the same price but I don't know what they'll want to do with the BBS and Vigo sets. Obviously you wouldn't be scamming them swapping the BBS set for Summer with Monika or the like but I'm picturing three or four people having no idea how to enter that.

But as far as servicing online orders instore, they're very good with that.
