Import the region free box set from Germany.

Paramount went for a quick victory but the judge said no soap. Has the potential to be a very long drawn out process.

Studio Canal owns international distribution rights; Universal owns those rights in the USA.

I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but VEEP was so unfunny we had to stop watching it.
Zooey Deschanel is cute and I'm sure The New Girl is amusing to teenage girls, but I was done after a few episodes.
I haven't watched 30 Rock for ages. I always thought it was very funny and loved Tina Fey. I guess I just had too much to watch. Perhaps she's just been doing it too long for an award.
I never got around to watching Parks and Recreation, but I do like Amy Poehler.
Still, Dunham's performance as Hannah is worthy of any award.
I suspect years from now, people will look back at this Girls and Dunham backlash with surprise.
Related question: does anyone really give any weight to the Golden Globes?

What about that one scene did you never "figure out"? I mean, there's no clear answer, but the implications are pretty interesting.

And you really should see Amour. Best film of 2012 by a mile.
I had no idea about the Lost Highway connection, because I've never seen Lost Highway.

Caché never really lost me as far as narrative goes, but there are some curve balls, without giving too much away, that I enjoy each time. I thought that I had the entire film figured out during my first viewing, but decided that there was more to the story than one person whom I thought was sending the tapes. It's been a while since I've revisited the film, so I look forward to the Blu-ray arriving at my doorstep. (Amazon UK has dispatched my Blu-ray, along with the new CD from one of my favorite bands, New Order. Both should be here sometime next week, I figure.) The movie makes references to family tensions, paranoia over videotaping, French/Algerian history, and so on.

Default Hulu Plus

So I subsribed to Hulu Plus so that I could get a lot more Criterion films under my belt (and not have to blind buy as much) but I've found that most of the time after about 20 minutes of watching a film, the streaming gets all choppy and unwatchable. Anyone else experience this problem? Any solutions?

Interesting...Veep was one of my favorite series of last year. Thought it got better each episode. She would have easily been my choice for the award (although I'm a much bigger fan of 30 Rock---have been from the beginning )

On the related question: I don't even give any weight to the Oscars.

What are the chances of Criterion releasing Amores Perros? I read that it's part of a death trilogy (with 21 Grams and Babel being the other two) and I would really like to see this as well.

Out of all the nominees, Girls was the least funny by quite a wide margin. It's a pretty big insult to the other nominees and comedy in general. Most HBO dramas have more laughs per episode.

Thanks for the heads up Joe! I was hoping to spend a bit more of my Amazon giftcard...would use it on Amazon UK, if they allowed it. Maybe I'll consider the MoC Judex, if the price refuses to drop on the FA version.

Any discernable differences between the two versions?

The fact they are two separate films could be one

The Flicker Alley release is the original Feuillade film. MoC released the Franju remake.

That's assuming years from now people will be looking back at Girls or Dunham at all. That's probably not where my money would go but I suppose anything's possible.

Yeah, absolutely. Veep started strong and kept getting better and JLD was very, very good. I didn't really care for her all that much in the Seinfeld days and was a little surprised at how good she was in New Christine (which got real stupid real fast but still) but she completely won me over with Veep.

That's because the Globes are STILL done as a banquet awards, like the Oscars used to be in the early 30's. And drinks are available.

Say what you want about the Oscars, at least there, nobody gets a drink until AFTER they go onstage.
Oh, the press "exclusives" we get from the actors and directors at the post show...And they let Mel Gibson in??

This isn't going to help you, but yes!... This happens to me as well and it is the worst. Usually restarting the, PS3 in my case, will usually fix the situation but I've had the same problem on an Xbox as well. Luckily, it doesn't happen every time.

I expected the Dunham hate to be in full force today.

I see Girls is now an insult to comedy...

Criterion fans are never going to let her go.
