Minuses ...
Jack Black
Adrian Brody
Stupidly long TRex Sequence
Central Park Scene
Bad Script
Agreed.

I will say that it's like they took the original (88 mins-ish) and added 100 mins of filler that didn't add anything to the story. The original's the best, and I even prefer the '76 Kong to the Jackson Kong.

Yeah the original's pacing cannot be beat.

I also like the 70s version ...

Pluses to the 70s version ...
Jessica Lange's debut omg
Charles Grodin
Decent pacing

Minuses to the 70's version
Corny script trying mimic current events(oil really ??)
Blow dry scene ... Sort of so corny it's good .. But really it is the same type of bad as Jackson's Central Park scene.

That's exciting news. I can't wait for The Immigrant. Two Lovers and We Own the Night are both great. Still haven't gotten to his earlier work (mostly for lack of interest).

I'm interested in seeing The Yards, but the Echo Bridge BluRay was cropped from Original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 to spect ratio: 1.78:1. Big thumbs down: You just don't do stuff like that.

I picked up that release before finding that out, so it's been sitting on my shelf for months now. I think that's the biggest thing deterring me from getting around to it.

The movie was very forgettable in my opinion.

I've heard it has great cinematography, though.

There's some nice shots of the train yard, but that's about all.

I almost purchased the John Cassavettes Criterion DVD set around this time last year. I actually had it in my hand in the checkout at Barnes & Noble, but put it down to buy something else. I'm glad that I waited, because I'll probably hit the Blu-rays at some point, either the import set or an eventual U.S. release.

I own the Rosemary's Baby Blu-ray, so that has to count for something in Cassavettes currency.

I have a habit of listening to random music on YouTube when I surf the computer.

I always get goosebumps on the back of my neck when I listen to this...

One of Zimmer's best scores.

On 3 hour movies, what is the major difference between Peter Jackson's King Kong and films like Godfather, Scarface, Dances with Wolves, Gone with the Wind, Godfather 2, Lawrence of Arabia etc.? tell me?

I would guess it is because Jackson is often criticized for being The Lord of excess. I see his films tend to be filled with drawn out action sequences, while some filmmakers have adopted a less is more attitude with great effect Jackson most certainly believes that more is more.

Not sure what this has to do with Criterion though...

Most of the films you listed in comparison are actually good.

Simple ... Good writing, acting and dialogue.

Jackson's movies linger on CG content to long to hold the audiences attention.

That's one of my favorite Peter Jackson films (after Heavenly Creatures).
