Watched Safety Last! and really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend picking it up. The stunts are pretty ridiculous. Harold Lloyd had to be in excellent shape to move so fluidly like it did during his gags.

I agree, they usually save some big announcements for November. Hopefully The Trilogy will be among them.

Also, I don't see any reason why Criterion would box up films like Scanners or any of the Lynch films. They seem like big sellers by themselves but would restrict sales if boxed. But then again I didn't think they would box up Easy Rider or The Last Picture Show, so who knows. and if the Antonioni trilogy is released it won't be for awhile. The new 35mm restoration of L'avventura just started touring. The earliest I could see it coming out is December. and I'd have to pass on a Hidden Fortress upgrade. Bleh.
It's been a long time, but I don't recall liking Eureka all that much, for sure not as much as Don't Look Back and Bad Timing (his 2 best imo), and Track 29 I recall liking even less (I think, I don't remember much about it, maybe it rubbed off a little on my memories of Eureka). Walkabout is my third favorite, Man Who Fell To Earth comes in fourth (conveniently most all of these ended up on Criterion, and I suspect Don't Look Back will eventually make it too). Maybe I should give Eureka another visit, Track 29 as well, it's been a long time.

The BBS Story box was originally going to be a Sony release, so that probably is related to why it's packaged together the way it is through Criterion. I'm doubtful any of those others mentioned will (or should) be box sets.

The clerk at B&N told me today their 50% off art house/Criterion sale has been extended 1 week through August 5th.

That's good news and if true, The Devil's Backbone will be available at the sale price on July 30.

That also gives me another week to save my pennies and purchase America Lost & Found for about $56 - marked down from $125 (incl member 10% off).

Yay!

Is anyone here afraid to put spine #666 in their Collection? I hope it doesn't cause bad luck to anyone.

I'm torn between Salo and spine #666 (Devils' Backbone) as least desirable BDs in finishing my collection (if it happens someday).

Reading your comment made me ponder about Polanski's rape scandal (my opinion is that he should have served some jail time for that incident). Some of his inner demons could be seen in those early films.

nope. not scared at all. its your least desiriable just cause of the spine number? stuff like that just doesn't phase me I guess. Salo isn't a top priority; but ill probably get it down the line.

Nah, I was just joking. I've never seen Devil's Backbone and will probably rent it first.

Given your massive enthusiast status, I think it's worth another visit. I've watched it a (very) few times since seeing it on the big screen back in the day, and it still holds up pretty well, enough to keep it as a favorite. (I don't want to watch it too often, as that kind of thing takes away the magic for me with certain films, I could see this becoming one of those the last time I watched it.)

For some reason while thinking about back in the day, I'm reminded most of another film I really liked from back then in a similar way, The Lost Honor Of Katharina Blum. Another of my favorites, though I'm surprised it's actually five years older. I've seen it on dvd once since my original viewing and thought it held up very well, perhaps even better the second time. I'd be curious what you thought of that one.

Just finished watching Breathless and I absolutely loved it.

The scene with Michel and Patricia lying around in her apartment could have gone on twice as long and I still would've enjoyed it just as much. Their dialogue was so playful and engaging throughout the whole movie. Many thanks to the members here who recommended this one!

I have a strong curiosity myself for "The Devil's Backbone". Hopefully, I can get the money to get it before the sale ends.

In Contempt there are similar dialogue scenes but IMO 10x better and and carry a lot more weight. Check that one out.

Quick question: Does any eclipse set (or a film from an eclipse set) has been upgraded to BD? I ask because I'm considering buying the Early Bergman set but if there's a chance that any of the films in the set could be upgraded to BD, I can hold off because I no longer buy DVDs. Thanks!

I don't think so. I know that there are no Eclipse sets on Blu-Ray.
