The Scorsese introduction is excellent, but watch that after the film.

They should get Scorsese to do more introductions. I'm not a huge fan of his films but I love listening to him talk about film.
Scorsese did the intro because Film Foundation (which he founded) did the restoration.

Variety Lights is Essential Art House, not Eclipse. All the EAH films save for one or two are also mainline Criterion releases; they are basically bare-bones versions.

Jerry Lewis's Hardly Working was a childhood favorite of mine, so it was on the brain, but signals got crossed.
I wonder how that movie would hold up today if I were to watch as an adult.

As I go through the Chaplin Blu-rays this weekend, I'm thinking that I will be picking up a copy of Monsieur Verdoux when I return to Barnes & Noble on Tuesday to grab Lord of the Flies.

He and John Waters are my favorite directors to listen to on commentary tracks. Polar opposites, to be sure, but both men make even trivial things interesting. How about some early John Waters on Criterion? After all Pink Flamingos was once a Criterion title!

If I recall Correctly I usually buy 2 Extra Shelves for the bookcases to maximize the amount of titles I can store. I have 8 Shelves per unit.

I do the same except i buy an extra Billy bookcase to get the shelves and toss the rest. It's cheaper over here than buying loose shelves.

I order alphabetically as well.

But I break the rule for like Jason X with the Friday the 13th films, or Dark Knight Rises with Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

I guess its easier to say I go alphabetical but lump franchises together even if a spin off or sequel doesn't match the exact letter that an original has.

I've done the same aswel. It does work out cheaper than buying individual shelves.

Just finished my copy of Insignificance. Quite the trip of a film. The 8:15 moment actually shook me in a way I wasn't expecting from everything leading up to it. Theresa Russell's performance is a real tour de force, as well. The whole relativity scene had me ridiculously engrossed.

A little light on the supplements, but the stuff provided offers good enough insight. I'm contemplating the UK release of The Man Who Fell To Earth now, because I'll never drop the cash on Criterion's release.

I organize mine by year and director simultaneously. It's old to new exempting when I have multiple films by the same director in which case I line them up chronologically, and after that, I continue on with the years. Having over a thousand Blus, you can imagine my shelves are pretty hectic and only I really understand how they are.

For real?? Have there been any hints released from the CC end or is this all fan speculation? I would die, Song of the South is one of my favorite Disney movies.

This is how I organize mine too, with Criterion separate from the non criterion.
Thinking about giving my OOP dvds their own shelf soon too.

Just finished watching Vampyr (1932) On DVD. Really creepy and unsettling atmosphere. Genuinely creepier than most modern horror films. I loved it to DEATH!

The picture quality was really, really rough. I've heard that the cinematographer supposedly left part of the camera open by mistake which resulted in a softer, grainier and even hazy appearance and that Dreyer actually loved the look and wanted the rest of the film shot like that.

If that's true, I can understand it. Audiences would've gotten to experience the look fresh but on the other hand, after 81 years, even if the film was shot perfectly, it would've had a rough look anyway. Dreyer wouldn't of taken that into consideration though, obviously. The style looks suitable for the most part but I wouldn't of minded if it was a little clearer at times haha :P

I'm now watching the film with audio commentary. Quite a good one. Would've been nice to have Del Toro's commentary from the Eureka release but I had to pick just one DVD release and I went with Criterion's because the packaging is just so darn beautiful and the book it comes with caught my interest.

I really hope this film gets restored for a BD release in the near future. Remarkable film.

Just got done watching Vivre Sa Vie. This was my second Godard film after Breathless. It was entertaining at times, but I've got to be honest, I'm really not getting into Godard's films so far. I definitely see the influence his work has given others, though.

... but Anna Karina is one of the great cinematic beauties, right?

I found Howard's End in my B&N today and decided to get it just for the sake of OOP. It was kind of scraped at the corners with the shrink wrap open though, maybe someone returned it? I also saw a few beat up Criterions with dented and/or cracked casings!

I also picked up Brazil because it's.. Brazil. My English teacher senior year actually showed it to us on VHS. Does anyone think it will be going OOP?
