Just ordered my first (possibly only) titles from the B&N sale: Rosemary's Baby and The Gold Rush.

Seven Samurai is about as art-house as The Dirty Dozen or Guns of Navarone IMO. It's an entertainer with a tight story, memorable characters and awesome action, that's all

Awesome choices. A perfect balance of intense suspense and uplifting physical comedy. Both of these look wonderful on Blu-ray.

By the way, I noticed the user EricJ had his account suspended.

Was he suspended for comparing Criterion collectors to drug users or something like that?

I'm sure that could get one suspended or expelled from a forum.

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

Just finished Seven Samurai. Looks like I have to edit my top 10 Criterions again. Excellent film. But then again, it's such a classic that I wasn't expecting anything less.

Yeah, I have to agree now. Come to think of it, it's really one of the most mainstream Criterion titles in a way.

I can see why Babette's Feast is Pope Francis' favorite film. Very warm and heartfelt.

Watched Brazil today. Great film. Loved every minute of it. Very interesting story behind it too with the Gilliam/Sheinberg feud.

Yeah, I need to get around to watching the Battle of Brazil documentary to hear more about it. Sounds fascinating.

Got to hand it to Gilliam et al for releasing the "Love Conquers All" version as well, despite how he obviously feels about it. Let the work speak for itself.

Has anyone ever seen El Norte or The Last Metro in the plastic cases? I've been to 7 different Barnes and Nobles and all I've seen are the original releases in the cardboard cases. I'm wondering if they ever were re-released in plastic like Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express were.

I know I can order the plastic cases from Criterion, but was hoping to avoid that.

I agree.

I only skimmed through it. That cut shouldn't even exist though. Totally ruins the artistic integrity of his original vision. I'm glad Gilliam fought to make sure that his version made it out into the open.
