Bottle Rocket (BD) ($16.33 + tax)

wish i could buy criterions for such a low price. but with tax, importing fee and shipping fee , even in a B&N sale i end up paying around 25-26$ for each movie.

Does anyone own Diabolique on Blu-ray? I was watching it last night on Hulu and noticed that the subtitles seemed to be slightly out of whack. Has anyone noticed this on the blu-ray release?

What do you mean by slightly out of whack? I watched it a couple of weeks ago on blu and the subs seemed fine.

Maybe I was just tired, but it seemed like there were translation issues. For example, some words would repeat themselves, sometimes the syntax was jumbled.... Again, maybe I was just watched it at the wrong time and I was tired!

The great thing is that they let me use several of the 5 off 50 coupons and a couple 8 off 40's. nothing like $15 Criterions

Can you cite an example? I don't remember any scenes that seemed "off." Fantastic movie, by the way. Although I liked The Wages of Fear a little better, Diabolique has a stronger start to finish, whereas the former takes some time to get the ball rolling.

Not off the top of my head, no. Maybe they caught it when transferring to blu-ray - either that, or it was never an issue, and I was just imagining it.

I thought that I was done, but I might grab the Criterion Blu-ray of Michelangelo Antonioni's Identification of a Woman, since I can get it for less than $15 this week.

A friend of mine and I were talking about John Foxx, OMD, and other 1980s synth pop artists when we were out on a training run yesterday morning, and that pushed me over the edge. The soundtrack alone makes me want to see the Antonioni movie.

Talk about a slap in the face. The draw should be Antonioni, one of the very greats, not a single OMD track.

I'm still weary on this one. I love Antonioni, but I've heard this is among his worst, which is hard to imagine for me. I can't see it being worse than Zabriskie Point.

You seem to be getting hung up on semantics in my posts lately. It's not a slap in the face.

Antonioni's cinema is the main attraction and that goes without saying, since I've praised L'Avventura, L'Eclisse, and Red Desert several times before in this thread.

The music in Identification of a Woman is what got me thinking about it this weekend, though.

It'll be a good lead-in to La Notte in a few months. I'm not 100% sure if I'll be buying Identification of a Woman this week, but I've been thinking about it over the past day or so. It's one of those situations where I'm basically committed to something on a whim and just trying to talk myself out of it. (I'm sure that others here can relate to that.)

I'm taking a closer look at the Identification of a Woman soundtrack on IMDB. Two songs from OMD, and they're both great tracks. A song from XTC. A couple of tracks from Tangerine Dream. A song from Japan (one of the most underrated bands of that era). All of that on top of the John Foxx score.*

*John Foxx was a key member of the influential band, Ultravox, whose synth-edged music in the late 1970s opened many roads for other bands. His 1981 solo album, The Garden, is downright amazing as well.

My package from B&N came today with Rosemary's Baby and The Gold Rush! That's probably all I'll be able to afford during this sale. I really need to save up $$ for the sale.

Watched several Criterions the past couple days.

The Devil's Backbone: Very creepy and eerie, but certainly not the traditional ghost story. Great cinematography and performances by all involved.

Badlands: I can't believe I hadn't heard more about this film. Loved the style and pacing, and Martin Sheen gave an incredible performance. Definitely enjoyed this far more than I was expecting.

The 400 Blows: What great storytelling! Very emotionally raw and powerful, it definitely made me feel personally involved in the family dynamic.

Really considering a blind buy for Devils's Backbone.

I'd recommend it. It was a blind buy for me (I remember hearing about it on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments) and it certainly didn't disappoint.
