That would be a pretty neat trick considering just how much stuff we want.

True that. There's always somebody in the thread who will be happy with the announcements, even if the announcements all suck. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I've got my own expectations set low for November, since October is going to be one damn fine month that will clutter up my Barnes & Noble cart during the next sale. It's going to be difficult for Criterion to follow up those stellar October announcements.

I thought Oblivion was the better movie. I also think that District 9 is extremely heavy handed, much more so than Elysium. Elysium is an incredibly dumb and fun movie, like a B movie.

Yeah, Criterion in having a good fall and they're not the only ones. Early on I thought 2013 was looking to be something of a soft catalog year but it's turning out to be very solid.

If A Brighter Summer Day was the only title Criterion released all year I'd still be over the moon. It's my single most wanted release. I certainly wouldn't say no to any of the other WCF restorations though or that rumoured upgrade of The Adventures of Antoine Doinel.

I'm rather taken aback at how much fun I've been having with the Oblivion Blu-ray. I enjoyed the movie in the theater, but I've watched the Blu-ray three times this week (the standard movie, the commentary track, and the isolated M83 score). The isolated M83 score track for the win.

It reminded me of how much I enjoyed the Criterion Blu-ray of Things To Come.

And Andrea Riseborough deserves an Oscar for best supporting actress.

Heh, I'm not sure enjoyed is the right word. Which is kind of ironic considering its fairly optimistic depiction of the future.

It's really freaking good but anybody expecting a 50s-type War of the Worlds - Fantastic Planet - The Day the Earth Stood Still type experience (and I was one of those people despite reading multiple warnings to the contrary) are in for a bit of cognitive dissonance.

And Raymond Massey is a perfect example of why hams ham it up in the first place - when it works it's pretty awesome

I had a great time simply enjoying the eye candy in Things to Come. Considering the time of release, the effects come together quite beautifully.

It's only a matter of time before I finally order The Complete Metropolis Blu-ray. I was fortunate to see it at an indie theater a few years ago when the restoration first hit the screens.

You lucky Devil! I've yet to see the Complete package too. Ive only seen the 90's (i think) partial restoration on DVD.

It was quite a wonderful experience. That theatrical showing of The Complete Metropolis was also my first experience ever seeing that film, so I have no memory of previous version by which to compare it. I'm glad that I waited, though.

I'm still on cloud nine after watching The Quiet Man last night. I name-dropped the Powell/Pressburger Criterions in my review of The Quiet Man, because the Technicolor beauty of that John Ford film translates to high definition in the same wonderful way that it does with Black Narcissus and The Life and the Death of Colonel Blimp.

Looking forward to returning to my Hitchcock box set tonight after this thunderstorm passes overhead.

I could only imagine.

Metropolis related. This concept album integrates much of Metropolis into its story line. So very good, I really need to put it back in my rotation:

Edit: thumbs up on The Quirt Man. It's one of Olive's best releases!

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

I need to buy The Complete Metropolis. I've seen the 2002 Kino DVD and the Moroder version (I own the latter). I'll get it soon.

On a Criterion related note, I finally watched my copy of Badlands today. Looks so much better than WB's old DVD and the special features are interesting (I was interested in the cheesy TV episode on Starkweather).

We're all proud of Janelle Monáe here in Atlanta, and that is a very good album. I like how it references the Fritz Lang movie.

Don't Shy away from the Giorgio Moroder version either. If this cheese-tastic soundtrack sounds awesome...buy it too.

A1 Freddie Mercury – Love Kills
A2 Pat Benatar – Here's My Heart
A3 Jon Anderson – Cage Of Freedom
A4 Cycle V – Blood From A Stone
A5 Giorgio Moroder – The Legend Of Babel
B1 Bonnie Tyler – Here She Comes
B2 Loverboy – Destruction
B3 Billy Squier – On Your Own
B4 Adam Ant – What's Going On
B5 Giorgio Moroder – Machines

Have you dipped into any of the Things to Come supplements? Total runtime is relatively low but what's there is pretty interesting.
