The Niagara cover art does sort of desexify Marilyn Monroe. It's a strange cover choice.

Every review that I've read of the Blu-ray, however, suggest that it's a miraculous high definition presentation of a beautiful Technicolor film, and that Marilyn Monroe is at her absolute best.

Marilyn Monroe in a film noir with the amazing Joseph Cotton (Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt).
I picked up Niagara at Barnes today also! I hear the new BLU image is really worth it. I can't wait to watch it this weekend. seen it many times before.

I think about movies weeks after I've seen them and I realize that they weren't very good (even though I was hyped after I first saw them).

How much was it? Any coupons floating around? All this talk is making me needy for my own copy!

What what what say what?

Let me get this straight, because I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly.

Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo is the 20th film, and Zatoichi is still alive to have five more movie adventures after that?

Does not compute.

One does not simply walk away from an encounter with Yojimbo.

If Zatoichi does not have a severed arm, or at least a severed hand carried away by a dog, by the movie's end, then I'm getting my money back from Criterion.

I mean.. yuck.
City Lights art has 1) has worse colors, 2) is visually flat.

It's so very bad. I bet CC hired JW to draw it after seeing his custom avatar.

I'm really really excited about City Lights, y'all. During the sale this past month, I upgraded my old DVDs of The Gold Rush, Modern Times, and The Great Dictator, then bought the Monsieur Verdoux Blu-ray as well, so I'm still riding the wave from enjoying all of those Chaplin flicks.

I like it also. It has a New Yorker magazine style to it.

Tokyo Story is announced so I'm pleased. So far 3 out of my 4 top wants have been released/announced (Badlands, Lord of the Flies, and Tokyo Story.) Now, if L'Avventura comes out for Dec. it will be a perfect Criterion year for me.

Maybe Criterion realized most of the people that buytheir movies are collectors like us.

I think the dual format is an experimental thing. Instead of having to mass produce BD and DVD, just shift them together in one and lower product costs.

Although I'm kind of sad the blu sticker is Bye Bye.

Looking forward to comparing notes with you! Looking forward to seeing what the Blu-ray has in store.

I only own one other Marilyn Monroe movie on Blu-ray right now, River of No Return (my favorite of hers that I've seen so far). I don't want to buy that flimsy Forever Marilyn set, so I'd prefer to buy the movies I want individually.

You aren't alone. The Bling Ring was in my 5 section when I saw it and now it's in the mid 3s. Plus about 3 weeks ago I knocked almost everything down and now I only have five with a perfect score. Sooo... you aren't alone.

I'm usually pretty confident in my initial verdict.

My initial thought on the combo packs is that it gives them the excuse to charge the regular $39.95 on titles that don't have that many extras (I Married a Witch, The Univited, etc). I'm probably wrong though.

I would think those barebones release will still be $29.95.

The Zatoichi box set will keep me from frowning at some of the announcements for a long time. What a wonderful surprise .
