Thanks Owl, yours was one of the aforementioned recommendations that I took to heart as I was ordering. I've actually got a stack of a few Criterion discs still to watch. Just got Persona in the mail from Netflix the other day as well. I'm pretty set for a few nights of good films!

Glad to hear! You'll love The 400 Blows. It's a hard film to hate.

(I honestly cannot stop thinking about Amarcord)

Yeah, it's a blind buy I'm not concerned about not liking. I'll be sure to post my thoughts on both films, as well as Persona (mentioned above).

I still have the "restored" laserdisc, that's about as close as we've got to the latter for now, I think, though it's really more an "everything and the kitchen sink" transfer.
I have the restored LD too

Nice!

I revisted 2001: A Space Odyssey again last night. Duh duh duh... Duh Duh!

I'll be watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High tomorrow night, probably.

Skipping movies on Thursday night to see Depeche Mode in concert with some friends.

I'm hoping that my Dirty Harry Collection box set will arrive in the mail by this weekend, and the Twilight Time Blu-ray of Drums Along the Mohawk may arrive in due time. If not, I'm going to revisit Seconds, and probably revisit Kubrick's The Shining.

Sometime after payday, I'm going to pull the trigger on Melville's Two Men in Manhattan, which comes out by way of Cohen Media next week.

Aside from that, I'm trying to decide whether to wait for a possible Criterion Flash Sale or to grab some with the Barnes & Noble Buy-2-Get-1-Free.

I did the buy 2 get 1 free, but waiting on them to ship as they are out of stock. However, I am waiting for the flash sale myself... And still need to use these coupons I got for joining the Member program.

To back track a bit to 2001, check this out! NY Philharmonic having a complete screening of film, with live performance of its score. Unfortunately, the cheapest tickets are $45 and are already sold out. I'm going to try and see if more get released as we get closer to the screening. That would be an awesome experience.

Now that would be an amazing experience... Well worth the $45. Good luck with the tickets, and please let us know how it goes. Wow... Just wow.

Nice! There was an Atlanta screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey a few months ago, but I was attending theatrical showings of Dr. No and From Russia With Love that same week. My priorities may be skewed somewhat by the standards of most, but I'm hoping to catch another screening of the Kubrick film at some point.

They're probably going to announce the December titles on Monday, since it's the first business day after the 15th.

Eastern Promises was a decent movie in the same way that A History of Violence was a decent movie. I got into those during my first viewings, but I have no real inclination to see either of them again.

I'd say Eastern Promises is the best post-horror Cronenberg film there is. It has been a while since I've seen it though.

Ah, you're right - I didn't notice it fell on the weekend. Bummer!

I can't wait to see if its really that "dumb" a movie. Nick Cave's work just doesn't rhyme with the word "dumb" though. But we'll see.

I'd be surprised if you don't think it's one of the very best Westerns (top three) of the millennium.
I think The Proposition may be the greatest Australian western of all time unless you count Walkabout as a western or maybe a Mel Gibson Mad Max film.

Oh, I know why too! Cause Bono/U2 are featured in those films (well, U2 songs in UTEOTW at least). I revisited The Million Dollar Hotel a few years ago but for some reason, the film is just not watchable for me.

I would be happy to see a Criterion release of this Wim Wenders film. It's an interesting and futuristic film and though the original cut is a tad lengthy (at 4 hours and 39 minutes), there are some really nice scenes in there. Though many say its pretentious, it's an underrated sci-fi film for sure in my opinion.

Joined this site to easily keep track of my collection and track prices, but I'm a big Criterion fan.... Count me among those that like Lawless, but The Proposition is much better....I'm also eagerly awaiting my copy of 400 Blows to be delivered (bought it just in case), as for some reason I've yet to see it, but I'm confident I'll love it.
