As a future reference, if you include quotations of the forum members you are directing your comments towards, it would eliminate confusion and allow the people concerned to respond to your comments.

Blu-ray reviewer

![]() Yes, The Housemaid is an outstanding film. It is beautifully restored and was screened at Cannes Classics. Director Bong Joon-ho (The Host) has been promoting it as "the Citizen Kane of Korean Cinema". It was released on Blu-ray in France by Carlotta Films a while ago, but I could not post a review for that release because it isn't English-friendly. (Maybe we could start some mini-reviews in the future for important non-English friendly releases). The transfer on Carlotta's release is fantastic. I assume Criterion are using the same resto. We posted a small note here last year (September, see below). (By the way, the remake is also a very good film ![]() https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9586 Here, let me post the trailer: ![]() The only other film I have seen from Marty's box set is Dry Summer. It was available on DVD via Tulumba, but not the restored version. Also, I would strongly encourage you to consider Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion. Mr. Petri is not as well known, or at least as respected, in North America as the likes of Antonioni, Rossellini, De Sica, and Fellini, but he is without a shadow of a doubt one of the five all-time greatest Italian directors. Fantastic soundtrack from the great Ennio Morricone as well: Also, here's the Italian trailer for the theatrical re-release of the new resto: Also, as you know well, Investigation... is part of Mr. Petri's Trilogy of Neuroses. The other two films are Lulu the Tool a.k.a The Working Class Goes to Heaven (1971) and Property Is No Longer a Theft (1973). I left a small post about Lulu... in the DVD subforum, which is back in print from Minerva Classics here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=227469 The Italian DVD release uses a a very strong restored transfer, it is English-friendly, and the lavish booklet is in Italian and English. I don't know if Criterion will be able to bring this film to the U.S. (or perhaps Raro), but this specific DVD release is much better than the old French DVD release ![]() ![]() ![]() The other two films you should all be familiar with. They are terrific. This is an outstanding line-up from Criterion yet again. ![]() It is really fantastic that people in North America will be able to see the new resto for Citizen... thanks to Criterion. TOUKI BOUKI is one of my absolute favorite films, and while Criterion has been looooong overdue to release the first African film on their label--and it's a shame that their first African film isn't a stand-alone release--I'm glad it's such an excellent choice. Hopefully there will be more to follow. I'll definitely be buying this set.

I've made some Day One purchases of Criterions. Having a 10% off member discount at Barnes and Noble helps, but it's still irresponsible. I usually wait until a big discount sale or coupon, but the Veruca Salt side of me sometimes takes over, and I want it now.
