I saved a $50 credit from Criterion and am using it for Nashville and Investigation of a Citizen above Suspicion. Nashville has been on my Blu ray wish list since the format began. It was a title meant for Criterion.

Barnes & Noble My B&N haul for Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Here's my haul for today!

John Cassavetes: 5 Films (20% coupon + 10% member discount): $44.99 + tax
City Lights ($5/50 coupon + 10% member discount): $16.32 + tax
Godzilla ($5/50 coupon + 10% member discount): $16.33 + tax
Hunger ($5/50 coupon + 10% member discount): $16.33 + tax

It was an all-around win, except I wanted to buy Frances Ha but the darn B&N price tag was put over the Criterion signature sticker! I asked the CSR there and she said that every store comes with the price tags on the lower left corner. Criterion needs to start putting the stickers on the lower right corner now! Booo!

I can't imagine what is going through someone's head to pass up picking something up because of a sticker.

I picked up my copies at Barnes & Noble today and was talking to the sales guy and I mentioned these were their first combo releases and he didn't even realize it. He stated that makes sense why we got so many in the "blu style" cases. I mentioned it didn't help that their price sticker was on top of the Criterion Dual Format sticker. Which is partly Criterion's fault.

I think they are aware by now Barnes always places their price stickers usually on the bottom Left corner. which is the exact spots for the Dual Format stickers for City Lights and Frances Ha. Criterion usually places their sticker in the best place possible to show off the cover art. Since Criterion partners with Barnes so much for these 50% off sales etc. I would hope Criterion could maybe for future releases have their stickers placed on the top left or right side of the case maybe?

With Dual Format releases some may not be aware when looking for a DVD copy of one of these titles they need to be aware they may be grouped with blu section.
I can verify this today as every single new dual-format release I saw had the B&N price sticker on top of the Criterion dual-format sticker. It seems like its Criterion's fault for placing the stickers on that corner now.

I'm sure someone has complained to Criterion by now of this slight mishap... I have a feeling we'll be seeing the Criterion stickers on the lower right side now instead of the left.

The releases aren't going anywhere, right? I'm just looking for a better copy where I can actually see the sticker. If not, I'll just eventually buy the release and carefully peel the B&N price tag off of the Criterion sticker.

Rewatch of Frances Ha bumped it up from a 3.5 to a 4 for me. Absolutely brilliant.

Massive kudos to Baumbach for reviving the French New Wave with this little gem. A perfect slice of life, especially for the new generation.

I watched this today and will be watching it again tomorrow with the commentary. I stand by my statement that it is Chaplin's crowning achievement.

Where are people getting the $5 off $50 coupon? I was planning on picking up two more this weekend but I'd upgrade it to three if I could save some cash...

Sorry to be a stickler, but Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles...not the Golden Gate.

Stickers? I throw the stickers out with the shrinkwrap. I'm pretty certain that I have other OCD tendencies that compensate for this in full, though.

My Criterion haul for the final half of November after payday will be relatively modest by my B&N sale track record. City Lights and Tokyo Story will probably be the only purchases, although I might spring for the Cassavettes set later in the month if there's enough breathing room. I want to complete my collection of film noir titles from Olive Films and Kino, and I've got a huge order lined up ready for me to pull the trigger, so that's the priority for the rest of this month.

I just finished watching To Live and Die in L.A. Good Lord, this movie is so awesome. It's been too long.

I dunno, I just couldn't watch the symbolic flashes of "violence" in Daisies without thinking back on the Monty Python "Foreign Film" sketch...

Bought Frances Ha today...instead of using the DVD copy as a drink coaster or a Frisbee, I threw the DVD up on eBay and sold it for $8 almost immediately. That's how I do B&N/CC sale

Hey guys,

I wanted to recommend two films to those of you who are taking advantage of the Criterion sale. I don't have much time to read this thread, but when I occasionally stop by I never see these films mentioned here.

The first film is Francesco Rosi's The Moment of Truth. As far as English speakers are concerned, this was a very difficult film to track down before Blu-ray came to exist. It is an extraordinary film.

The second film is Robert M. Young's Alambrista. It won the very first Camera d'Or Award (for Best First Feature Film) at Cannes in 1978.

Hopefully, they will appeal to some of you

Why do you need to see the sticker? Do you keep your Criterions sealed? Do you collect the stickers?

Just saw Frances Ha on Netflix streaming. It's great to see, but I don't think I'd ever want to see it again. New Wave of any kind was never really my thing anyway. Glad I didn't blind-buy it.

I'm not making fun of you because I have my own issues, but you do realize that the price tag is over the sticker on Hunger and yet you still bought that?
