I'm glad that you enjoyed this!

I am a big fan of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, although it is the polar opposite of the James Bond movies that I have always loved so much. This film adaptation follows the John Le Carre novel amazingly well, and effectively captures the bleakness of dedicating one's life to being a mere instrument of policy.

If you get a chance, check out the Blu-ray, because the picture quality improvement over the already-awesome Criterion DVD is unbelievable.

If you like Claire Bloom, then I highly recommend the Robert Wise film, The Haunting.

These lightning deals are great... but INSANE. The most recent one, Three Outlaw Samurai was over 80% sold out in about 62 seconds.

I got lucky and got it, but was sitting here waiting for it to refresh. Before it even refreshed fully it was like 17% claimed. And the gone in under 2 minutes... nuts.

Been waiting on this one, but I missed it. On the waitlist, but it says it's a poor chance of gettin' the deal. Eh, it's all right.

Yeah I snagged it too. I'm trying to stop buying these damn things. I think that'll be the last one before Christmas for me.. unless I can't resist Gold Rush later this week.

Yeah, I keep telling myself the same thing, then I click "add to cart." Like last night, added Citizen Kane (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition) to the cart for $23. Couldn't pass it up...

I bought and watched the Citizen Kane digibook yesterday.

Good Lord, this movie looks unbelievable on Blu-ray. I used to see Citizen Kane a good bit years ago by way of VHS rentals and television showings, so it was a blessing to see it in high definition. I posted a few words about it last night in this thread, and cannot add much, but...oh, how sweet it is.

I'm about to watch the Olive Films Blu-ray of Ruthless tonight, and I've heard it has some parallels to Citizen Kane in a way.

Yes, but it has to be that specific quote--
By about Ep. 14, he says it so many repeated times, it's like he's deliberately trying to throw you off.

Yeah, now that memory serves, I would definitely include Audition and Do the Right Thing on the list of pre-viewing SPOILERS. Can't remember what was clipped from Eyes Without a Face or The Third Man, but just to be sure. (Possibly "Empire Strikes Back" on the list too, but you never know.)
Film-school iconic spoilers, yes (that are pretty much the only scenes we remember the movies for), but Kane-level if you haven't gotten the total experience of the movie yet.

A quick question regarding Amazon lightening deals, are they only available via the .com site?

I am in Canada and Amazon can be horrendous for shipping costs.

Sadly, I spent what little cash I had on the B&N sale and now I can only $.05 & $.10 the rest of the holidays. Wanted to get Star Trek: The Original Series Three-Season Pack but that'll have to wait. I did manage to get 6 Criterion titles and the Universal Classic Monsters set so I can't complain too loud. My daughter is coming home for Christmas and that usually loosens my wife's death grip on the money so maybe there's hope............

Am just spot-checking NASHVILLE now. So far, it looks great. There's also a new hour-long documentary about the making of the film.

Just finished watching Nashville.

Initially, I was confused about what the rave was about it, but as the film progressed, especially the last hour and change or so, I was totally blown away.

Excellent, excellent film. Loved the ending song so much!

PQ is nothing short of fantastic. Do not hesitate to buy it!

Indy: your signature on the bottom. Man of steel worst film of the yr. I can live with that I was highly dissapointed in it & the second half was really bad IMO. But the place beyond the pines also? I didn't think it was that bad, i give it points for it trying to aim high and trying to be like a deer hunter epic...
