If you enjoy film noir it's a very safe bet.

I, for one, thoroughly enjoy The Quiet Man. The last half hour is some of the most fun cinema there is.

If you are a fan of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, then you'll recognize the scene in The Quiet Man that is playing on television when the E.T. is having a psychic connection with Eliott.

The Olive Films Blu-ray of The Quiet Man is out of this world, in terms of visuals.

Well I only have the Artisan DVD version, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it all the same. Maybe it'll make me want to upgrade.

And then i'll have to go back and watch E.T. again.

The TCM broadcast of the film in HD is terrible. The Olive Blu-ray is good but there's room for improvement, imo. Same deal with Johnny Guitar.

Cage tends to be seen as someone who makes a lot of lowbrow movies -- probably because he does make a lot of lowbrow movies -- but if one looks at his filmography, there are any number of films that I could see even a "snooty" Criterion releasing, if they could wrangle the rights.

Whatever virtues The Quiet Man may have, I don't think "making you want to watch E.T. again" is one of them.

I still need to see the first two.
Not Frankenheimer directed but Fail-Safe would fit in that category also.

I'd love to see Criterion do Fail-Safe, especially if they included Stephen Frears's live-TV-broadcast remake as a bonus feature.

Definitely edge-of-your-seat film. More so if you saw it during the Cold War era.

(At the very least, it should indicate that Criterion isn't too snooty.)
That feels like forever ago and it eventually received a Blu-ray release from another studio. Vampire's Kiss, however, is still banished to the lower realm of DVD.

I can't see anyone else scooping up the Robeson films. If anyone - it'd be ideal for Twilight Time. Though it may not even sell 500 copies.

As I understand, he took many of his film roles due to financial troubles...

Since I’m not very familiar with Ingmar Bergman films, I decided to take out Summer With Monika so that I can kind of get a taste of what I’m in for when I get around to seeing Fanny and Alexander, which was a blind buy for me. I have yet to cherry pick a Criterion title that I have not enjoyed and this one was no different. There is some nice cinematography and a straight forward plot that carries things along fine enough. I was a bit blind-sided by the ending which has quite an emotional wallop. Also, there are a few shots that, if they aren’t considered iconic, they darn well should be. So, of my recent foray into the Criterion Collection, this one ranks 12 of 19 for me. Was very good!

Anyone else enjoy Bergman's 3 'Summer' films? I'll check out the other two soon.

Vote here for: Snake Eyes! "I'm on tv?!" Lol. Criterion has gotta appreciate the tracking shots, the use of surveillance cams, Cage's over-acting, and Carla Gugino is very easy on the eyes.
