Interesting. I might have to take back my comment about The Great Beauty being an aberration. But not yet, as Criterion's website doesn't mention separate DVD-only editions of the above four titles (yet).

I've always wanted to know the popular consensus of the Three Colors Trilogy so I started a poll in the movie polls forum. When I told a friend of mine recently that Blue was my favorite, he said that it was considered the weakest which blew my mind if that is even true. So I hope you guys vote in this thread so we can see which one is considered the best.

Your friend is insane.

White actually seems to be regarded as the weakest, both among movie fans and critics. White has the lowest IMDb rating (7.7 compared to Blue's 8.0 and Red's 8.1) and it doesn't appear on They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?'s 1,000 Greatest Films list, unlike both Blue (#227) and Red (#288). It's been far too long since I've seen them to judge, but I remember Red being my favorite at the time. Definitely need to revisit these.

I found it to be an incredibly uninteresting approach to an already incredibly uninteresting subject.

I've just bought the UK Eraserhead for £5 in Amazon's 2 for £10 promo, so I'd expect that to be announced next month with some certainty. Just got fed up waiting.

In any regard, A Hijacking was a really good film that I haven't seen anybody name drop or put in any kind of 2013 favorites list either. Well worth your time.

I found A Hijacking to be decent. It's realistic in a non-glamorous or action-packed way, in that the negotiator assistant in the film is a real life hijacking negotiator and provided insight to the screenwriter and director. However, I thought it was rather boring.

Even though Captain Phillips is a much more Hollywood film, it's still realistic as it sticks pretty closely to the actual story. It's far more entertaining and a much better film on almost every level, imo.

I think Red is the best film, but White might be the one I enjoy the most. Blue is my least favorite. I love how the films are so different, yet exist cohesively on a thematic level.

I don't know Netflix's stance on NC-17 titles (it'd be strange if they opposed them, considering they helped distribute the This Film is Not Yet Rated documentary), but since BITWC is distributed by Sundance Selects/IFC Films, and the same thing happened with Frances Ha, it might end up on Netflix Instant next month.

Netflix has In the Realm of the Senses, so I don't think any other commercial release would really be off limits.

Blue is my favorite as well, followed by Red, then White.

That's great news, Owl.

By the way, in honor of the "Big Game" coming this weekend, perhaps you should change your moniker from "The Great Owl" to "Superb Owl".

(Before anyone asks, yes, I watch The Colbert Report.)

That's where I saw it. As I've said, well-made film, but I don't wish to own it.

Just watched Throne of Blood for the first time. Pretty good and a decent transfer. I LOVED the making of special feature! I wish more modern films would include Noh theatre elements somehow.

I watched Corridors of Blood on Hulu tonight, thought it was great, and immediately went to my computer to see where I could get a copy. Turns out it is in the "Monsters and Madmen" Criterion Set. I'm tempted to buy the DVDs but I know as soon as I do, Criterion will announce a blu-ray upgrade. Does anyone know of another, blu-ray, release that this or the other films in that set might have gotten?
