Probably not, that is the tricky thing with Criterion films... Some are life changin to one person or just ok or bad to others. That is why I have a hard time going off others recommendations. Like Tess is getting rave reviews here but everything I read plot wise says I would just not like it... I wanted to like the Seventh Seal but it has not clicked yet.

I did love Thief though lol...

Order number 1 shipped! Hope I have both packages by Saturday (though really Sunday since I'll be at an Oscar marathon all day Saturday).

See: the Dardenne brothers releases, Summer Interlude/With Monika, the French Ophuls films. As far as the films being connected? No not really. They're not even sequential Louis Malle films (Zazie dans le Metro and the absolutely atrocious Vie privée being between them).
Thanks for the explanation, Stud Spider (and nice call wrapping that whole response in a spoiler tag). I didn't think they were connected either. But that whole O and X kind of reminded me of "tic tac toe" for some reason.

bwdowiak, which 3 Malle films did you see? I own Black Moon, Au Revoir Les Enfants, My Dinner with Andre and the Eclipse Series 2 (documentaries) set.

Clare2904, I thought of that too. And it also spells "OX".

My flash sale order of Zatoichi and Fantastic Mr. Fox is scheduled to arrive Friday night. I ordered within the first 15 minutes of the sale.

I really want to catch up on unwatched Criterions in the next 2 days:
Godzilla
Three Outlaw Samurai(Blind Buy)
To Be or Not To Be
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion(Blind Buy)

I need to check out that trailer for Godzilla 2014. All the talk about it on this board has my interest piqued. Also, what do you all think of the Godzilla sequels? I have never seen any of the sequels, but the previews look cheesy.

You are the only one in this thread not teetering on the abyss of poverty then! Haha...

It looks like the first part of my order shipped and the items that were supposedly "back ordered" are already being processed and packed. Does that mean that Criterion really doesn't actually run out of stock and instead sets limits on how many of each title can be sold? Why would they do that? Wouldn't that mean less revenue? There are definitely a few more titles I would have picked up if they were "in stock." Someone with business sense please explain this to me.

I live in New Jersey and my order is scheduled to come on Monday. I was hoping for a Saturday delivery but guess not. And now I hear we may have a big snow storm Monday. So I'll be snowed in with no Criterions till probably Tuesday

Sounds like there were cancellations so they had more back in stock to sell.

My first was Chasing Amy, and I didn't have any idea what or who Criterion was. All I knew was there was a lot of cool stuff and I needed more dvds like that!

I know it's sad, but I love this movie. It cracks me up every time I watch it... I'm a simple man sometimes. I'm just thinking of all the hilarious extras Criterion could come up with, starting with what could be the funniest commentary ever.

Also, finally got shipping notice on my first order, I can't wait.

Yay, completely smashed copy of Blue is the Warmest Colour, King of the Hill and Tess.

Hopefully the replacement is sent with UPS, DHL has the worst packaging out there.

The Lovers and The Fire Within are both excellent films, and the explanations posted earlier about the O and the X are spot-on. I hope that Criterion upgrades these to Blu-ray in the near future.

My favorite Louis Malle film, by far, is Elevator to the Gallows, and it is another title that is screaming for an upgrade, mostly because of the Miles Davis score.

I hear you... I think my first Criterion purchase was either Life of Brian or The Last Temptation of Christ, with no idea what the Criterion Collection was (or how it would come to rule my purchasing habits! LOL).
