I dunno, I think Pain and Gain is way better than Benjamin Button and Panic Room.

I think it would be quite a crime if Echo Bridge got put in charge of "Panic Room", while it ranks low in the David Fincher canon for most, including myself, I do believe it deserves a proper release. I mean for the love of God please not Echo Bridge and if not Sony themselves or Criterion, maybe Twilight Time?

I didn't really like Scanners the first time I saw it, it just didn't grab me and I found it a chore to watch almost. I'll have to give it another go soon. I do agree with the need for more David Lynch on Criterion though, particularly Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. Are we ever going to get Eraserhead, even though it's essentially been confirmed?

What ever happened to Deep End with Jane Asher? Weren't they supposed to release that at some point?

There's a very nice region-free Blu-ray (now also including a DVD) from the BFI on DEEP END, with some great supplements including an extremely darkly comic short (in HD) called CARELESS LOVE.

I've been holding off on buying that for a while now because I expected Criterion to release it soon. However, it appears they're going to do nothing with their rights to the film, so I'll probably order it soon. A friend imported it and spoke highly of the product's quality.

I dont think they will make those Bay like mistakes again (not that im comparing Panic room with bay at all), I think they hold themselves to a higher standard now.

Nice. I'm hoping to see it soon, Criterion or no Criterion (mostly because of my love for Edward Norton ).

Check your TV listings because that's how I was able to see it.

I think Spike Lee tweeted that he was talking to Criterion about it a couple years ago, but nothing has surfaced yet.

Finally got to watch Foreign Correspondent this morning.

WOW. Immediately became one of my absolute favorite Hitchcock films. Incredible transfer as well. 10/10

Does anyone know how often or if the Criterion covers are made into posters? I love the FC art and would kill to have it on my wall.

I am beginning to think that we'll see the Cronenberg titles and Eraserhead this October in a horror wave.
I would guess:
Cronenberg Set
Eraserhead
Fiend Without a Face
Sisters
And another surprise or two

I just finished watching the Criterion DVD of Samuel Fuller's 1953 film noir, Pickup on South Street. I love the easy-going "lived-in" feel of this movie that reveals itself during a few low-key sequences...Skip keeping cold beer in a crate that he lowers into the East River from his shack hideout, Skip's affection for Moe (an outstanding role by Thelma Ritter) despite knowing that she is an informant, etc. Richard Widmark delivers another top-notch noir role, and Jean Peters (Niagara) is incredibly alluring.

I'm usually not as receptive to film noirs with Cold War spy plots as I am to film noirs with conventional crime-related plots, but this particular movie is an exception to the rule, and it's a top-notch noir on its own terms.

Gotta love the scene where Skip grabs a thug and pulls him down a flight of stairs so that the thug's chin hits each step going down. It's an uncannily effective "Looney Tunes" moment in a noir flick.

Yeah, this is another one that Criterion needs to upgrade soon.

It's clever marketing, as doing this "Wider but still not wide" limited release means anyone who really wants to see it will go and see it and tell everyone else how much they like it (as, if they really do want to see it, they're much more likely to like it than Joe Public) for two months.

This. It opens in two weeks in Pittsburgh.

I think they do update it frequently, as The Freshman has been available almost immediately since the pre-order went up.

On a related note, I own that L'Avventura poster.

Got Frances Ha and Tokyo Story from my fiance for my birthday, among other things. I can always count on her to get me some good Criterions throughout the year!
