I don't drink but I look forward to a Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner and my wife and me sitting down to watch The Quiet Man. This year will be my first viewing of it on Blu-ray.

About Schmidt.. I definitely liked, but I'd put it 4th (and probably destined to be 5th after I see Nebraska).
I think Election would make the best A.P. Criterion release as it is closer to his earlier work and deserves a bigger audience. Oh, and the BD out now is kinda lousy from what I understand.

I saw Shailene Woodley at last year's EbertFest after a screening of The Spectacular Now. Pretty classy young lady. Count me as a fan.
Well, the only reason I didn't think Sideways would make for a Criterion Blu-ray is that its already out on Blu-ray in a pretty solid release! That is my favorite of his films anyway.

I haven't made up a card➊ for April's releases yet, but for March releases, these are the non-Criterions that I'm interested in. I'm not claiming that all of these are great movies (some are, though), but they're ones that I've picked up or would like to get at some point:

The Grandmaster
The Agony and the Ecstasy
Somewhere in Time
Intolerable Cruelty
Philomena
The Last Days on Mars
Oldboy
12 Years a Slave
Mademoiselle C
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923)
El Dorado
Gunfight at O.K. Corral
Hatari!
Samson and Delilah
The Swimmer
The Book Thief
Inside Llewyn Davis
Iron Sky: Director's Cut
Swerve
Frozen
American Hustle
Saving Mr. Banks
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
Continuum: Season 2 (TV series)

➊ Each month, I fill out an index card with the titles that I'm interested in as a "cheat sheet" so that I know what to look for in the local stores.

Yes. It's been said before, if the 15th is on the weekend, then announcement day will most likely be on the Monday following.

Sure, I get it. I'm also get excited to see what they're going to announce for 3 months down the road. But I really don't understand why people get upset if they have to wait another couple of days. It's not like you're not going to have to wait 3 months for the discs to actually get released.

The older I get the faster time goes by so a month goes by in a blink! Or so it seems anyway.

The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (1971)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Escape from New York (1981)
Pandora's Box (1929)
Blood and Black Lace (1964)
A Bay of Blood (1971)
The Great Silence (1968)
Lost in Translation (2003)
The Killer (1989)
I don't think Criterion can afford what Richard Rubenstein wants in order to license Dawn of the Dead, especially with the new 3D transfer. I'd love to see Murder By Death on blu-ray.

This is why W.A is hard to pinpoint in terms of his best films. I love most his work and hat Moonrise Kingdom... Was not too crazy about Grand Budapest either. My favorites of his for my tastes:

Life Aquatic
Darjeeling
Royal T's
Grand Budapest
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
Mr.Fox
Moonrise...

Pretty much backwards from other people lol

I did watch The Grapes of Wrath a couple weeks ago, since I finished the Steinbeck novel earlier this winter. Such a great film...

The Swimmer is one of my favourite films of all time, and my most awaited release of this year. There's a lot of great stuff coming out soon though.

There were rumours that Lynne Ramsays short 'Swimmer' was being released by criterion? Anyone know anything about this? All I have is some crappy vimeo download to watch and its a stunning short film.

Next month's (July) announcement is the one I'm actually anticipating more than June's releases. I'm very anxious to get a release date for A Hard Day's Night.

Why is that? Has AHDN been confirmed for July by another source?

Yup. There older cardboard packaging and their dual format packaging is like night and day.

I apologize for running away with this thread again, but I rented The Spectacular Now last month, and I absolutely loved the movie.

In my opinion, The Spectacular Now is the best high school/teen movie since Say Anything... (1989). In fact, I watched my Blu-ray of Say Anything... immediately after I was finished watching The Spectacular Now. It's rare that these movies treat the subject matter with the respect that it deserves.

Reposting my thoughts from the thread dedicated to the film...

I love how The Spectacular Now plays out a matter-of-fact and down-to-Earth approach to incidents in the film that would have been overemphasized or used as preachy moments in lesser movies. I love the movie's practical representation of economic realities and of the day-to-day financial hurdles of its characters. I love how the movie is adept at depicting teen awkwardness and teen discomfort when it comes to moments when assertiveness is necessary.

On a surface level, I was drawn in by the Athens, Georgia location because I've spent a lot of time in that town. When I was in high school back in the 1980s, we used to play the high school in the movie (Clarke Central High School) in football, and I've driven down the main highway stretch in the movie more times than I can count. I realized that the Wuxtry location was a fake location because I've bought music from the real store so many times.
...and, yes, I have been in the Georgia Bar before.

Yeah but Night of the Hunter is quite chunky (and flimsy), even Last year and Spirit of the beehive are bigger than Godzilla, pretty sure its the thinnest digipak I own from them lol

Sorry - I'm talking about one disc cardboard packaging not including the early blu releases like Last Year and Man Who Fell.

Godzilla, Sweet Smell, etc.

Ha, I was there, too. I met her after. Just a really nice, sweet woman. Managed to snag a picture with her and James Ponsoldt (director of The Spectacular Now).
