Ah ok thanks - think I will check them out, never been disappointed with any blind buys so far.

I can speak to Tess to some extent. It is absolutely beautiful, great cinematography. Bored the holy hell out of me when I was 18 or 19. I remember hating Thomas Hardy, so that probably has something to do with it. It's been a while since then, I've seen a few more films and have a bit of wear on the tires, so I might feel differently today or someday. It's on my maybe (but probably) list somewhere down the road. Pro-B's review was very enthusiastic.

For people who have their finger on the pulse of future Criterion releases, what are the odds of "Short Cuts" being upgraded to blu-ray anytime soon?

Im a fan of both directors, but not keen on the period genre - but do you think these have enough for me to enjoy, as in beautiful score, cinematography and acting? just don't know much about them and would rather watch Criterion version rather than renting or buying cheap before criterion version.

Anyone reckon I should just go for it?
Watch Criterion's clip of Tess on youtube. It blew me away! I never heard of it before (odd, because I like Polanski, even The Tenant), and this clip convinced me. Blind buy all the way.

Just thinking of more directors that already have a foot in Criterion's door again...
How would De Palma's Greetings fit into the line?
How about a release of Adventures of Baron Munchausen, with bonus movie Jabberwocky?

Tess was big news when it came out, but mostly because it was Polanski's first film in exile.

Watched Who's That Knocking At My Door? the other day too. Reminded me of Cassavettes.

I'd certainly support both of these. Especially since Greetings never even had a decent DVD release...all we got was a bargain-bin disc. I could actually see Criterion releasing Hi, Mom! with Greetings as a supplement, as Hi, Mom! seems to be at least marginally more recognized.

Yeah, but Greetings came first, so that would be somewhat irritating to me, at least. I can't seem to find the first. Does it matter which order you watch them in? Either way, I'd be happy.

I'd rather have the Fisher King .
Baron already has a good special edition.

I'll just quote myself from earlier in this thread:

Aesthetically beautiful. Fantastic score. Brilliant dialogue. Engrossing story. Very well acted. And, of course, Polanski's direction.

Certainly, one of the best experiences in my movie watching career. I think I was smiling throughout the entire three hours. Well, when I wasn't tearing up. Depressing in parts, and yet very life affirming!

It is an amazing release. Stellar PQ and AQ. The movie itself gets 5/5 from me

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Criterion will be releasing A Hard Day's Night on July 21.

I've sent like 4 emails to Criterion (both Jon and Orders) and haven't gotten a single response. What gives?

But isn't that just a guess based off of the New Years '14 drawing? If it does happen, they just f**ked up Criterion's shtick.
