Criterion are adding nothing new to Like Someone in Love.

£7.39 at Base

£11.39 on Amazon
Im tempted, the artwork is far superior - not sure what transfer will be like, but probs won't be much different.

Ever since I started collecting Criterions I've been put off ordering standard Blu's - they just don't seem or feel as special lol

To quote Albert Brooks in Real Life (another film I'd love to see in the Collection), it "teaches the French what a montage is all about".

I would murder to have some classic Albert Brooks on blu. Real Life and Modern Romance would seem like great fits for CC.

Oh, for my list of most rewatched, I gather this isn't limited to Blu:

Trouble in Paradise
Seven Samaraii
Rushmore
Three Colours
Sweet Smell of Success

Runner up: Night on Earth

I can't really offer up a Top 5

I've only watched 14 actual Criterion's but many from the Collection by other distributors. I always rate the entire package.

Great idea and lots of films being thrown into the ring

Bicycle Thieves would be a fantastic update. What a great film! If an Italian classic is in the cards, I hope it's this one.

Passion of Joan of Arc is an extraordinary masterpiece of silent cinema. I too am waiting for the update before I purchase the film.

I'd add Ikiru to an updates list, as well as The Virgin Spring. I've always wanted to see Au hazard Balthazar--I find the concept of the story, of the donkey passing from owner to owner, very intriguing.

I'd love to see a definitive Criterion blu-ray for the Gospel According to St. Matthew. That would be amazing, with the new tide of interest in Biblical films/mini-series. This one is by far the best; a truly moving experience, told as Pasolini's version of the gospel. The cinematography and music choices are stunning.

I'm also a fan of the Palme winner Symphonie Pastorale (1948), which doesn't have a definitive DVD release. Has some amazing photography, and may have inspired Truffaut for Wild Child.

Asian cinema seems due for a release. I've mentioned Raise the Red Lantern and Farewell My Concubine and To Live before.

I'd love another contemporary film from the last year or so. The Zero Dark Thirty BD was a disappointment; that movie would be a fantastic addition to the collection if Sony Pictures relented (probably not).

But of all these options, I'd be most happy to see McCabe & Mrs. Miller on blu-ray. God, what a great genre-bending depiction of the west, with sublime performances and music. Hoping for a pleasant surprise.

You people who are passing up the DVD in favor of waiting for a Blu-ray are screwing it for the rest of us. Will one of you please just bite the bullet and get the DVD already so that Criterion will announce an upgrade.

Sheesh.

The Gospel According to St. Matthew would be awesome, as would McCabe and Mrs. Miller.

Amen to this. My favorite Altman film, and one of my top 3 or 4 films I wish Criterion would license.

So which one of these New Year's clues will be announced today?

Scanners
Jacques Tati collection
Jacques Demy collection
Tootsie
Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers

Red Sun
Ringu
A Raisin in the Sun
Macbeth (Polanski)

The ones below the space are clues that are still too vague to determine, while the ones above are r more likely.

It would have been great if they had released this, this April.
No need to "upgrade" - Warner Bros. already put out a fantastic looking blu-ray:

I can see another Eclipse set being announced this month. They haven't done one since January, so it seems like we're overdue for one.

Even though they just announced an upgrade of L'Eclisse, maybe they'll surprise us with L'Avventura, as well. Also, maybe we'll see an upgrade of Preston Sturges films (The Lady Eve / Sullivan's Travels) or David Lean (Summertime).

That's the 1961 one. He's talking about the 1920s version.
