I watched My Dinner With André (1981) last night and I found it to be an excellent, yet incredibly draining, film. The film features some of the most thought-provoking dialogue of all time and it truly makes you think about life, purpose, etc.

I will admit that I was a little lost at times due to exhaustion (as it was late and it is a rather draining film), but from what I was able to comprehend and understand, I really enjoyed. Much respect to those involved.

I really hope Criterion upgrades it soon.

irksome and meddling is what I would call him. it was interesting that
[Show spoiler]several times during the police interrogation, one of the inspectors says something to the effect of, "get this kid out of here" and then at the end they all have the disposition like, "shut up, kid."

"it's the twooth, it's the twooth!" Man, did I find him annoying! the film was tightly constructed, but considering the reviews on RT, I expected a little more, I think. standing in the shadow of The Third Man, that may have made it harder for me to really love this film.

And of course that final shot of the two sleeping on the couch..

The film captures the life of a child in an unfamiliar setting well. I especially enjoy all of the eccentric characters spread about the town.

Ah, now I feel like watching it again. I'm such a sucker for a coming-of-age flick.
there were aspects of the film that I enjoyed, but I wasn't too knocked out by this film, either
[Show spoiler] (no pun intended.) the last shot was very sweet
.. so, yeah, I felt the destination was pretty good if the ride was a bit underwhelming.

interesting that one poster asked another poster here recently, "is there anything that you do like? I feel that I am beginning to sound like the voice of dissent around here. While I have only disliked 2 out of around 60 Criterion titles, some of the more well loved titles have underwhelmed me.

I think that it may be true (at least in my experience) that great art doesn't always immediately hit you over the head and speak to you. I was perhaps too hard on films like High and Low and upon reflection, I have come to like Jules and Jim, too. I have enjoyed the 3 Bergman films I have seen - Summer With Monika, Smilles of a Summer Night, and Persona. I recognize the artistry and the talent, but the rest of his filmography isn't really screaming out to me, "see me, now!"

Some albums that I have loved did not resonate to me the first time around. Maybe I'll have the same experience with some of these films.

Please give "Wild Strawberries" a try. You may like that one more.

I have seen none of these 3 Bergmans, but I would strongly recommend Fanny & Alexander. The running time might be a strong deterrent, but I found it really engaging.

You've heard about "Season 3" on Twitter, right? You can join in here or get a full day's worth of story here.
I am huge Lynch fan, and I completely agree. It would never make it on TV today, and even by today's standards it's disturbing, and subversive.

And I did not know about "season 3!" I guess I have something to read after work! Thanks!

Seriously, I like all of Bergman's work, but I think Wild Strawberries may have wider appeal than some.

That is the next title on my radar.

I blind bought it last year during all of the pre-Christmas sales. My wife and I are looking fwd to seeing it, but it seems like the stars would have to align for us to have that much time during one weekend to get through it. I will see it, though.

Ages ago, I tried this movie. It was extremely heavy for me, but I was a late teen then and may not have been prepared for it.

I'll continue to watch Bergman titles, for sure. I'm just waiting for something to click so that I can share that same enthusiasm that I know some of you have.

I also need to pull the trigger on the darn Hulu subscription. No idea what I am waiting for. A few that I'd see really soon w/ the Hulu subscription are: The Last Metro (didn't realize this was a Truffaut film), Wild Strawberries, and more Louis Malle

Black Orpheus is currently going for $20.99 on Amazon.

A steal, if you ask me. Only 19 copies left.

Looks like a plastic case. The digipaks usually open up on the left side of the front artwork.

Has anyone noticed the "Not interested" feature on this site? I find it odd how some go out of their way to say they're not interested in a film.
