So happy to see The Vanishing being hinted as a potential release!! I frickin' love that movie.

It was the very first Criterion I owned on DVD that wasn't The Rock or Armageddon. It was the one film, of the hundreds that were out at the time and released by CC, that opened up my eyes to foreign cinema. I was very naive at the time (in terms of being open minded about different genres of film).

I remember purchasing The Rock Criterion DVD from some guy on eBay years and years ago, and he threw in The Vanishing for free. My life would never be the same from that point forward.

Depending on what you think of Only Lovers Left Alive, you might end up borrowing that film sooner than you think (or not). Lol.

Talk about lucking out.

I believe The Vanishing was actually the very first Criterion DVD I ever bought...and one of the only DVD's still in my Collection.

I thought that the clues for blu-ray upgrades of Criterion titles are usually colored blue in some way. Am I wrong?

I'm having so much trouble with the images. I'm currently at work on my iPad. I got these both used from Amazon. For great prices compared to what I've been seeing. To my surprise, The Man Who Fell To Earth came completely new sealed.

Best way for me on iPad is upload images to image sharing site and then copy the URL and when making post click the yellow square with mountain and paste the URL there... I think lol

How much did you get it for if I may ask?

Also love how Criterion took an existing design for this and made it so much better and more exciting and a ta dmore professional lol:

Bought so many Criterions and nothing else lately its weird seeing the ages on the cover lol - I don't even know the ages of most my films now lol

I'll have to do that next time. I got Le Cercle Rouge Bluray Used, Complete for $50 and I got The Man Who Fell To Earth Bluray "Used" came sealed (minus sticker) for $79.90 (sounds better than $80)

Argh if The Vanishing is coming out then that's the 3rd fail for me from last year using the B&N sale I bought vanishing and insomnia and Tokyo Story. Although super cheap now I need to upgrade all since all three are amazing movies.

Glad to hear. It inclines me to see it more.

I still have Mystery Train (BD), Night On Earth (DVD), and Stranger Than Paradise (DVD) to watch.

I think the new Tokyo Story release has a documentary that was not on the dvd only release, so at least you have additional content to look forward to there.

Not sure. Maybe since adopting dual format they no longer do that?

The Vanishing was the first subtitled foreign film that I ever saw.

I watched it on one of the pay cable channels late at night during the early 1990s while I was in college, and I was blown away. This was shortly after the remake had come out in theaters, and I had fortunately read reviews of that film that advised people to check out the original version first.

About 14 years ago, I purchased this Fox Lorber DVD...

I watched this DVD for a while before I double-dipped for the Criterion DVD during the mid-2000s.

The Vanishing was not my first Criterion DVD, because my first two or three Criterions were Kurosawa films. I'm pretty sure that it was my third or fourth Criterion DVD purchase, though.

The poster hangs in my movie room. I love the film's dead pan delivery and the subtlety of some of the humor. I tend to gravitate to humor that "doesn't try too hard" - dry and wry, I say.

Anyone think of trying a double bill of Last Year at Marienbad and Persona?

Exactly the type of humor I enjoy, as well.

RE: The double bill - I've been meaning to rewatch both of them, so I'll give it a try soon.

Well I enjoyed the trailer. I only hope it is not of those films that pack all the good parts into the trailer and the rest of the film is kak
