Why are they only just making the 3 disc cases? Pretty sure they already did 3 slot Dvd cases like for Science is Fiction, unless it's a different case make.

3 disc Blu-ray cases, not DVD cases.

Watching Badlands. Has Criterion licensed any other Warner Bros. titles since the release of this BD last year?

I finally got around to Persona. Criterion's release is galaxies above the MGM DVD release. The PQ/AQ is exceptional. It has that wow factor that Last Year at Marienbad has - to give just one example.

All this talk of the Ripley novels has convinced me to read them after I finish Don Quijote.

I still prefer Clouzot's The Wages of Fear because it has a slightly grittier immediacy, but Friedkin's Sorcerer is an outstanding film on its own terms. I watched Sorcerer earlier this afternoon with undivided attention, and am now enjoying it a second time while I post with my laptop.

Sorcerer differs from The Wages of Fear mostly in the first half, because Friedkin introduces each character in a series of prologues that take place before they arrive in South America. These are riveting to watch on their own, and I like how Friedkin utilizes a different way for us to get to know the characters. Clouzot and Friedkin use different methods to achieve the same end result, so that, in both films, so that we are already invested in each character once the trucks get rolling.

Both movies are class examples of where action films could take us in the days before digital effects took away any real sense of danger in cinema.
Both movies are also awesomely unglamorous affairs where viewers never sense that they are watching film sets.

Sorcerer is more viscerally brutal than The Wages of Fear during a few key moments, but I think that The Wages of Fear still raises my hair on end more often than the latter film.

I'm glad to have both of these movies on my shelf now. I think that they are both five-star films.

It was a pretty solid mention but I don't think there's a direct link to any official announcement or 'we have this in the works' articles or facebook posts or the like.

I would definitely lose it at least a little bit. Iron Giant really is an underrated animation classic. By the way, I watched my Criterion of Fantastic Mr. Fox this morning and really enjoyed it. This was my second time viewing the film while my first viewing was a slightly blurry SD DVR off of Sundance channel. The booklet for Fantastic Mr. Fox has wonderful illustrations and the on disc supplements are fantastic! (I couldn't resist the bad pun)

I really look forward to future animation releases from Criterion. In my dreams they would be able to get the rights to Princess Mononoke from Disney.

Tonight's screening was Life Is Sweet. A few hours later I am still trying to decide what to make of it.

I enjoyed it for sure, I'm just not certain how much

This.
Someone asked about it during a Wexner Center chat about two years ago and Peter Becker said that they licensed at least one or two and that one of them was a pre-code film. Thats all thats been mentioned since but hopefully something will come out soon.

It's one of my least favorites in the Collection, but I think I need to give it another shot.

I remember the story or the characters didn't do much for me.

I guess being English and from what can be called lower middle class I "got" the people and their lives more

There is an Audio commentary Extra which I think I'll give a whirl tomorrow. Maybe that would help you too.

Pandora's Box. Oh, please!

Or some Frank Borzage ("pre-code" implying American releases). France has good all-region transfers of some of his work, tho Crit would do a far better job with the extras.

Shock Corridor is on TCM on 29 April (which incidentally, was a great day 39 years ago) @ 16.45. Great Criterion release

Talk about coincidences.

At the start of tonight's episode of Mad Men, the main character, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), is in a movie theater watching Demy's "Model Shop".

We were just talking about it last night.
