well, let us know. I'd be curious.

2 times I bought (or was going to buy) things that I thought might have been glitches and before buying them I inquired with the seller. one time the price was legit and the 2nd time the seller changed the price and didn't even have the courtesy to acknowledge the fact that I had brought his attention to a mistake. I was peeved about that one.

that's why I buy now and ask questions later.

Forum member, Akijama, found this article that mentions both The Brood (1979) and The Innocents (1961) as coming from Criterion.

Quote:
Down the road, creepy little critters terrorize experimental psychiatrist Oliver Reed in Criterion’s edition of The Brood (1979), an offering from Canada’s always-disturbing filmmaker that may be his creepiest effort ever…And keeping with horror, Criterion has a treat up its sleeve for Halloween with the arrival of The Innocents (1961). This adaptation of Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw” is a gothic spooker, with Deborah Kerr as a new governess encountering unnatural circumstances at a country estate. Expect premium extras on this one.

Ooh....

I'm ambivalent about The Brood, but The Innocents is great news!

IL Sorpasso seems like safe blind buy for me. Without getting into specifics, did you guys find it to be a sad movie?

That's great - they are on iTunes so thought that was definite sign they were coming, not got American iTunes set up but do most iTunes releases get full release? I know persona and stuff was on iTunes first.

The Innocents is great news indeed. The region-locked BFI release is very nice but this would be an almost certain double-dip. It's a fantastic film and gives The Haunting a run for its money as the haunted house movie.

Sadly, Out of the Past is only out on DVD at present, but it's a sharp-looking DVD, and seeing it on a high definition television at last after having only previously viewed it on tube televisions kicked it to the top spot in a hurry. Jacques Tourneur was one of the greatest directors, from a visual perspective, and the movie features remarkable roles from Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, and Jane Greer.

A few weeks back, I found a cheap copy of the source novel, Build My Gallows High, by Daniel Mainwaring (under the pseudonym of Geoffrey Holmes). It's a great read, but Out of the Past benefits from snappy dialogue added by the screenwriters to make it one of the few film adaptations that is better than the book.
Nice, thanks. I'm really backed up on my own collection right now, but maybe I'll get lucky and Warner will put Out of the Past out on Blu-ray by the time I'm able to watch it. Now that you've made me aware of it, I'll definitely check it out when I can though.

Probably won't be for a while, if ever. The DVD looks really good, but someone (either here or in the Noir Films thread) posted a response by Warner Archive Collection on, I think, Facebook, saying that the elements weren't up to snuff for a Blu-ray release in the foreseeable future.

That's strange that they would have let the elements go that much in 10 years given how good Warner is usually with that stuff, but maybe they'll get around to another restoration eventually given the film's status in the genre (from what I gather from The Great Owl's link).

At worst, I'll pick up one of the collections Out of the Past is in when the time comes.

At the risk of contributing to the game of telephone, I think they were saying the existing transfer, while HD, isn't quite BD-ready. I can't find the exact reference now but I don't think they were talking about source materials and it sounded like it was at least on their radar.

Blu Titan,

I wouldn't classify Il Sorpasso as sad, however the ending is (without getting into specifics). The majority of the picture though is fun, entertaining, and I really enjoyed it. It was easily one of my favorite CC Blind Buys in recent memory, despite the way the film wraps up.

I think you would enjoy it.

watching Melvilles's Les Enfants Terribles on Hulu.. reminds me of Bertolucci's The Dreamers. I can't remember, but do they reference the Melville movie in The Dreamers?

since we are talking about avatars... is hoyterdeen out there? I haven't been able to place his avatar although I saw that same pic in an article written about "the greatest films of all time." I haven't seen the movie, but my guess is Stalag 17? I have no idea.

The best avatar on the site right now belongs to *PREACHER*. Scroll back a few pages to see what I mean.
Sorry to be late to the discussion but Owl nailed it. I would love for Criterion to be able to pry it away from Warner's and give it the treatment it deserves.

In regards to the incorrect pricing on Amazon, who is to blame for that?

The Seller as they enter the price when listing the item or Amazon, if the Seller did their part correct but Amazon software made a mistake?

Not sure - Ive seen a few sellers put wrong price (got Fantastic Mr fox on release day for £15 and next day it was £25).

This one looked like Amazons fault as most the items all had same price (£5.88) then few hours later they went to £2.88 - Amazon should follow through with order and pay the seller the difference tbh lol.

Thanks haha - its 'Dispatching now' so fingers crossed >.<

Even if I don't get it and have to pay full price - after paying £117 for one film, paying £120 for 27(?) discs is very appealing lol
