Brilliant film
the whole movie is shot from the point of view of a little girl. if you watch it with that in mind much of the stuff makes actually alot more sense
its one of my favorite criterion "fun" movies.

Theres also a lot of imagery to represent the change from a young girl to a women - read read an article somewhere that goes into more depth - which when you look at it its pretty obvious lol

It is very fun but also does have those serious moments

When Kunfû fights the planks though... "This is ridicolous!" (or w/e the line was lol)

I'm not gonna lie, I laughed quite a bit at it, especially the character of Kung Fu.

That is what makes it so great is you can laugh at it. Its awesomely bad. The first time I saw it I laughed the entire time and by the end of the movie I had a huge smile from how campy it was. Ive suggested this to all my friends.

Its a toss up between Kung Fu and Harmony for me on cuteness and wife material.

I loved how the theme song kept playing over and over and over then you had Kung-Fu's musical cue which was just awesome!

Red River Blu-ray

Hello Snicket,

I received the final version today. Below are some photos I've taken for you (and the community). (More photos in the review).

It is a rather large box set because the novel is included with the Blu-ray.

Have a wonderful weekend Snicket, and everyone else

Wow what a great package! - is that first Bluray to get a book with it? I know DVDs had books with certain releases - but never for the Bluray version.

That depends on how you want to look at it. It's (at least as far as I know) the first Blu-ray (in North America, anyway) to have the novel packaged with it. There are certainly some Criterion packages that had hefty-enough booklets that they qualify as books (Seven Samurai and The Battle of Algiers come to mind). It's unfortunate that Criterion didn't include Walter Tevis's novel of The Man Who Fell to Earth with the Blu-ray -- it was in the earlier DVD release.

There are also Collector's Editions of some titles that actually include large format hardcover books. Some of the ones I have are The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, and Lawrence of Arabia.

Anyway, the closest thing I know of in terms of included fiction was a Target Exclusive edition of Jack Reacher that included a paperback of a Reacher novella.

If Criterion upgrades Vampyr, hopefully they include the book that included the script and Carmilla like they did on the DVD.

Just a guess, but they probably will. I have no doubt that it was long enough (a tad over three years) between when The Man Who Fell to Earth came out on DVD and Blu-ray that Criterion didn't have the license for another special printing of the novel. And being one of their first Blu-ray releases, they were probably being conservative with the packaging.

The Vampyr material is probably not in copyright ("Carmilla" definitely isn't' not sure about the script), so it wouldn't be an issue. And now that Criterion has a large catalog of Blu-rays under their belt, they can be more extravagant with the packaging.

(I just checked my copy of Vampyr. The book does cite a published source for the screenplay, along with a permission acknowledgment, so it's not in the Public Domain.)

Magnificent Obsession is coming on German Bluray (along with All that Heaven Allows) on May 22th.
Do you think it could be in Criterion's next announcement too?
I really hope so!!
