Not blu-ray, but seems to be showing up BN.com, so probably your last chance to grab it at a reasonable price for anyone who's been thinking about it.
Hmm...interesting. Both the JVS set and Pandora's Box seem to have randomly gone OOP.

My short list for the B&N sale is twenty-three strong. My shorty-short list is eleven (and mostly just Kurosawa, Bergman and Anderson catch-up).

So, question. I want Madame De.... We watched Lola Montes finally recently and, well, my god. However, I am actually considering getting the DVD over the Blu. The much-discussed Blu transfer looks distractingly bad, but I haven't seen anyone consider the DVD a better alternative yet. So... what do you think?

Chaplin as a serial murderer, what's not to like?
But seriously, it's definitely a very interesting film. Sometimes I feel that the slapstick elements in it jar a bit, but it also has some of the most beautiful and emotionally affecting dialog written, especially in the scene where Verdoux brings the woman home for a certain "test".

Just noticed when setting up some recordings for the week, and sure enough they're there. Idk if the programming differs somewhat between time zones?

Went for Life Aquatic, Thief, and Judex for my first order. Will go back when Scanners and Insomnia are out.

You would have to have a heart of stone to not love The Gold Rush or City Lights.
Give them a chance, you won't regret it!

The French BD uses an un-DNR'ed master and appears to look quite beautiful. It's Region-free and has English subs. That's my recommendation.

Is the interest calculated before or after your 5% rebate is applied?

OK, I made my (maybe first?) order:

Thief
Il Sorpasso
All That Heaven Allows
Red River
The Life Aquatic
La Vie De Bohème
Amarcord
The Gold Rush
Sommarlek
Les Visiteurs Du Soir

The Life Aquatic being the only one of those I've seen before. So that's exciting!

Not sure if you're saying the BD of Lola Montès is bad or if the one of Madame de is.

For Madame de, however, so far, either you import the French Gaumont BD (Zone Free with English subs on the movie) or you get the French iTunes 720p version.

Pro-B
I'm especially curious about how Lola will be handle, since the Arte French BD was pretty poor PQ-wise (and I understood it unfortunately is linked to the restoration itself).

Looks like Spielberg's Duel is finally being released by Universal as part of a boxed set this fall.

I'm hoping that Duel receives a single release at some point, because I already own half of the films in that box set on Blu-ray.

I'm inclined to lie low during this Barnes & Noble sale, simply because I've got so many still-unwatched Blu-rays and DVDs in my stack at home.

That said, I'm definitely up for the new titles...

A Hard Day's Night
Scanners
Pickpocket
Insomnia

I've got a good gut feeling about The Essential Jacques Demy set, and I will probably pull the trigger on this one as well. The colors will probably look fantastic in high definition.

EDIT: I might seek out The Golden Age of Television DVD set, since I've been intrigued by this one for a while, and since availability is apparently limited. It'll sit well on the shelf by my Twilight Zone set.

The LUBITSCH MUSICALS is a wonderful looking dvd set.
THE SMILING LIEUTENANT is probably my favorite of the group of 4 pre-code films...but you really can't go wrong with any of them. High production values, witty, adult humor for it's time...we really need more Ernst Lubitsch blu rays though. Am eagerly awaiting a TROUBLE IN PARADISE upgrade...but the time is right for me to finally get TO BE OR NOT TO BE.

Looks like the price for the 3 SILENT CLASSICS BY JOSEF VON STERNBERG has already gone up. Luckily I got this during a previous B&N 50% off sale. I rarely buy DVD's anymore but I think I better take advantage of the sale and get THE SCARLET EMPRESS too before that one goes OOP. Not sure when, if ever a blu of this will come out...

Finally, someone mentioned Modern Times! I've been waiting - it's a favorite of mine and a very typical Chaplin film.
