Oh well, since you asked, that sounds like a capital idea:
[Show spoiler]Income: $1440, Social Security
--
Rent: $895
Food: +- $165 (not counting $15/mo. in government food stamps--I used to get the whole $180, but my income went up)
Electricity: +- $18
Internet/Cable: $47
Gas: +- $18
Netflix (I don't watch TV, but have to take the Basic cable to get the cheap Internet): $8
Savings: $100

I'm thinking I should cut back on multiple monthly purchases of $25-35 movies I've never heard of in my life, but I'm not sure...Would this be a wise move?

No worries!
It's definitely a movie that benefits from repeat viewings, hopefully the next one goes better!

So excited for this box set! Bay Of Angels is the one that I'm looking most forward to as well. Fantastic film!
I just wish that those documentaries and features weren't on the same disc as Un Chambre Un Ville so that I could banish that garbage film from my collection.

Starting now, you're not allowed to spend any money on food.

I'm pretty sure people who blind buy have usually heard of the film before buying it, they just haven't actually seen it.
I blind bought a chunk of movies during last years sale but all were based on either directors, images or comparisons people had made to other films that I liked.
Out of that I picked up Marketa Lazarova which is now one of my most cherished blu rays.
Even during this sale I'm planning on blind buying Il Sorpasso and Tess, knowing full well that I'm not going to be disappointed.
We all know what we're doing here.

Your situation is obviously not the same as others, so quit treating it like it is.

(also, these movies are $20 for a whole month, even less if you have a B&N membership! )

I blind bought this based on reviews and the imagery in trailers stuck with me.

NO REGRETS, incredible film, the music and the imagery stick with you, I don't think I can actually fault this film - it is pretty near perfection.

I need to watch again soon, my jaw was on floor throughout the film - I can't believe I had never heard of it before (but after some reading it wasn't a well known film anyway).

Tess is INCREDIBLY beautiful, I didn't realise it was a 3 hour film and I watched to chill back in bed as I was tired so I need to watch when I'm in mood, the acting was superb and I don't regret buying it, it is a great Polanksi film, I was only aware of a few of his films (Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, The Tenant, Carnage, Venus in Furs). But if you like beautiful filmed films, then Tess is a no brainer .

Im not too big on Period films, I don't know what it is I just find the stories hard to enjoy, but the costumes and score used are brilliant.

Again, with my blind buys, I usually ask in here first and hear peoples feedbacks, or use the comments section on the film page on Criterion - I usually ignore professional reviewers as they sometimes come across as 'diss the film for the sake of it' or w/e (I really enjoy Pro-B's reviews though). Or I hear people discussing a film I have not heard of, or is new to me, or I may have heard of but avoided due to not much knowledge on it and then I hear the compliments and think - need to see this .

It's usually a "which do you think is better?" type situation though and not a "I've never even heard of these just tell me right now what to buy!"
I was stuck between which of those two titles I wanted to add to my list and was going to ask for more opinions on it myself before deciding "f*ck it, my jobs paying me way more than enough for both" and making that decision.
We still all try and get as much info on what we're buying to help sway our decisions.

Even if you do blind buy and hate the film - it is so easy tons ell or swap, Criterions hold their value and you can sell a watched criterion near same price paid new.

Especially in a sale where you could make profit as well.

Not Criterion-related but I just finished watching Martin Scorcese's documentary on George Harrison (Living in the Material World) and it was astounding. I already knew a lot about Harrison but it made me realize just how one man can touch so many people in loving ways that spans time and space. I am still rendered speechless after seeing this 4 hour epic. I have no more words at this time. Now I look forward to buying A Hard Day's Night in the July sale.

THE ORGANIZER wasn't a blind buy for me but I liked it enough that I bought the Criterion after a viewing on TCM some months ago. I think it's a gorgeous looking film and the drama which revolves around the efforts to improve working conditions at a Italian factory (circa late 1800's) held my interest.

I've only seen a handful of Marcello Mastroianni films (my favorite being La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2) but I really can't imagine not liking The Organizer if you are a fan of his.

I bought this because I do love period dramas...and as I mentioned, because of the beautiful black & white cinematography which does a terrific job in invoking the look of late 19th century photographs.

I'm a big fan of Jeanne Dielman, but accept that it's not for everyone. The clip on Criterion pretty much nails it; we follow the eponymous character for three days as she carries her domestic chores, which include cooking, cleaning and having sex with local men for money while her son is at school. While jarring at first (and definitely as a premise) the hypnotic state of the work soon takes over, and reels you in. It's an incredible looking film too, with the aesthetics and cut really effectively reflecting the space within which Jeanne is placed.

I caught it theatrically last year, and it quickly leapt in to my all-time great experiences at the movies. Now that Pickpocket has been announced for Blu-ray its probably my most longed-for upgrade too. It's a really special movie.

Oh, and make sure you watch it in one sitting: the temporal element of the film is so integral to the experience that to watch it over multiple nights, or to even pause it to get snacks etc would be akin to watching something like The Red Shoes in black and white!

Just done a dummy run of the order I placed with DVD Planet instead of B&N. For some reason The Children Are Watching Us is listed as almost full price (3% discount)

Thank you!

I have a soft spot for these "color explosion" movies from the 1960s and before that look great in high definition. That's why I ordered Bye Bye Birdie from the Twilight Time site a couple weeks ago. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg screenshots have my attention.

Pandora's Box has officially been labeled as out-of-print, but still remains on Hulu Plus... so an upgrade could be in the works.

(The Golden Age of Television SKU has also been flagged as OOP, but not officially labeled as such, but a blu-ray release is unlikely, given the quality of materials. Likely just a packaging change as stock has dwindled.)
