That's not from the movie. (It's from the supplements?)

The Press Interview scene is from the movie, and while it's obviously new revolutionary 60's-edited Richard Lester comedy, it's also semi-fictionally taken from actual wit-and-wisdom quotes from their American press interviews:

The Beatles actually started out in The Cavern as a leather-jacketed Rocker group, doing covers of Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and Little Richard, until Brian Epstein came along, gave them Mod suits, cleaned them up for the mainstream clubs, and made them, to quote Ringo, a Mocker group.

But... everyone has their own taste in music and film. I grew up buying Beatles LPs, though I'm not a fanatic about the band.

Very good point. Hmmm indeed.

Then it appears they just randomly dumped the 10 bds I ordered onto the cardboard, which resulted in a big random pile of bds going in all directions just like you would think would happen if they had dropped them from like 2 feet above the box. Then they shrinkwrapped that whole glob of bds onto the cardboard bottom. And then in the absolute most baffling move, they turned the whole mass upside down and actually glued the top of the shrinkwrapped mass onto the bottom of the box so that the cardboard ends up being the closest thing to the top of the box when you open it.
I mean, WTF????
I can't begin to fathom how they decided this was a good way to package a fairly large order of bds, and I'm actually still wondering if some mistake caused the mass to be flipped over accidentally.
anyone else get an order packaged like this?
(of course the paper releases were heavily dented and damaged; the plastic case copies actually came out ok by some miracle)
That is exactly the reason I loathe digipacks. As someone who doesn't have a chance to buy them in person, I'm left to the devices of the Big 3 shipping companies and the staff at each websites shipping depot. I don't think I've ever had a single DVD/BD in plastic case arrive damaged (Well it's happened twice, once because the postal carrier left the padded envelope on the ground in my parking space and I drove over it [the disc survived as did all the artwork] and the other time it came from a used seller, so no idea if the case was cracked before it even shipped). I don't deny that the digipacks have some neat artwork but they're much too fragile (and large) for me.

As an amateur guitar player, I appreciate their contributions to music and agree that they help progress music with their work (but let's be honest, if there were no Beatles, someone else would've done it; the same can be said of all innovators). That said, I'm not a real big fan. They have a few songs I enjoy but I'll never put on a Beatles CD and play it straight through.

Having an opinion is all good and well but when you say a huge influential band is an "overrated boy band", that is sort of simplifying things a little too much. I don't care if people like or don't like them at all because I'm not here to convince anyone to agree with me. But there are ways to say things and there are other ways to say things. Catch my drift?

With the ongoing B&N sake, why don't we post what are, in our own personal opinions, the five essential Criterion blu ray discs. The definition of essential is up to the individual. This could help some newer members, and older members alike, build their Criterion collection through seeing titles appear on member's lists. My five essentials:

Three Colors Trilogy
The Thin Red Line
The Night of the Hunter
Paris, Texas
Solaris

Nice selections. They're all very different, so I think it's a good foundation. For me:

The Thin Red Line
12 Angry Men
The Gold Rush
Tokyo Story
Seven Samurai

Extremely tough to pick just 5.

Blind bought the John Cassavetes: Five Films collection.

Got a nice deal for it (the 50% off sale, the 10% off membership, and 20% off coupon). Can't wait to watch it.

On the other hand, Universal hardly gave Moonrise Kingdom anything in the way of extras, so in that case, it might be worth holding out for the Criterion.
The only real significant feature that is missing from the Criterion for Fantastic Mr. Fox is "Making Mr. Fox Fantastic". Is there really anything substantial in that multi-part feature that didn't get replaced by Criterion's making of doc?

2nd haul completed today!

I've decided instead of posting pictures of each haul, I'm just going to name the titles I bought and at the end take one photo of all hauls put together to show off.

I used the 20% coupon and bought Picnic at Hanging Rock for $14.42 + tax

I also bought 3 more titles with the $5 off $50 coupon:

The Life Aquatic
King of the Hill
Rififi

Average of $16.32 + tax for each.

This brings up my total to 7 now with 12 more to go.

Every sale this is done.

Seven Samurai
Persona
On The Waterfront
Badlands
La Haine
City Lights

Three Colors
Belle De Jour
Jules and Jim

Ok I did 10 essentials. Damn no room for World on a Wire and Letter Never Sent! Those are essential too.

Since three of my absolute favorite Criterion titles are currently out of print and not available in the Barnes & Noble sale (Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, The Third Man), I'll leave them off of my top five and stick to titles that are actually available.

Off the top of my head...

The Night of the Hunter
Paris, Texas
Sweet Smell of Success
Ace in the Hole
The Wages of Fear

When The Vanishing is hopefully upgraded to Blu-ray in the next few months, it will probably kick one of the above five off of the list.

Can you make an online request for a title? The sale lasts pretty long, with enough time between now and the end for a BD to be sent to the store. Every store in my area is out of Au Revoir Les Enfants, which I wanted to pick up.

The funny thing is, Spice World is a guilty pleasure of mine. Well, kind of. I've only seen it once, but found it silly fun. I'm loathe to make the comparison to A Hard Day's Night because whenever I've done so, people seem to think that I'm saying that it's as good as AHDN.
